Metzler’s Doctrine of Progressive Educators (DOPE).

Deny there’s any problem.

Only admit there’s a problem when you get caught lying about it.

Limit or exclude any public participation. Threaten with police action or investigations. Avoid RTK requests by forming “special committees.”

Stonewall any information or right-to-know requests until there’s legal action.

Blame the opposition for legal costs that your stonewalling on right-to-know caused.

Bully and silence any opposition.

Remind the teachers and SAU employees their union jobs and future pay raises are on the line if the jig is ever up.

Have fellow progressives (politicians, teachers, SAU employees, and rump swabs) pack a town meeting to
insult and shout down the opposition who want to leave the district.

Close or Zero Budget any local school in a non-cooperative town, then re-open it for a new purpose. Make the town pay for it.

Get your wife, School & Budget committee family members on the district payroll (We’re all in it together you know.).

Submit bloated budgets and multiple bond issues every year with declining student enrollment.

Demand that everyone address you as “Doctor (Metzler).” Show the opposition that you’re smarter than them.

Remind the taxpayers: We’re smarter than you. We’ll raise your kids for you, or at least get them a job at McDonald’s or in government.

Tell the taxpayers to sit down, shut up and shell out. It’s for the children (and our paychecks).

When all else fails, blame Donna Green and the citizens of Sandown.
