He who has the Gold makes the rules (or, the bribe / lure of free money) – Part 2

OK, I’m on a theme tonight – and that’s OK as I’m trying to transition from doing so many live events and go back to regular blogging…OK, from last year, but bears repeating.

Another good "offer" from the Feds:  You can have this money ($3.2 million), State of NH, IF you pass a law that mandates seatbelt usage.  Our money, filtered through DC (and they take their cut), for our highways, but with their strings attached.  Strings attached (of a different kind); the Feds often sound like the the Pawn Stars on the History Channel ("everything in here has a story – and a price").

The Story: We, the Feds, have money for you for your highway system!  Sure, tell the local taxpayers that it is free to them (we don’t have to bring up that itty bitty fact that it is coming from OTHER taxpayers, and that their free money is coming from us).

The "Strings Attached: Oh, btw, you have to pass a new law, for perpetuity, to get this $$ – not to worry, no biggie – most States have already accepted these strings.

The Reason: it’s the right thing to do – it’s for Safety and Security!

The Back Reason: Not enough of your perfectly mature adults don’t bother to do it on their own. That’s wrong of them that they make the wrong choices; we’re going to "nudge" them to do the right thing.  Fines work, don’t they?

The Real Cost  – the loss of choice by perfectly good adults whether or not THEY get to make the decision to protect themselves.

The Price of Freedom: So the Feds put a price on Freedom: with about 1.3 million Granite Staters, it works out to be about $3 / person.

Freedom is defined by the choices we can make.  Conservatives in this election have all yammered about the Big Government taking away our Individual Freedom and Liberties; this is a concrete example of such.

Life is about risk, Freedom is about choice.  Even if that Freedom means making bad choices.

Progressives have decided, via Big Government, that they have the responsibility to force you to be "better people" and do "what you should do" and not allow you to be able to take "bad risks" (at least in their minds).   Individual choice, to them, is only what they allow you to do – and only what they want you to do.

After all, Progressives believe that the rest of us are incapable of taking care of ourselves.

Hmm, and racking up $4 Trillion of new debt in 2 years is responsible…..how?

Safety vs. Freedom – which is your choice?

Co-founder of GraniteGrok, my concern is around Individual Liberty and Freedom and how the Government is taking that away. As an evangelical Christian and Conservative with small "L" libertarian leanings, my fight is with Progressives forcing a collectivized, secular humanistic future upon us. As a TEA Party activist, citizen journalist, and pundit!, my goal is to use the New Media to advance the radical notions of America's Founders back into our culture.
