GraniteGrok.com has already endorsed Rep. Bill O’Brien from Mont Vernon for Speaker of the House. It is worth repeating. The email below was sent to a select group of GOP State House candidates who have not declared their preference in the race for speaker of the state house of New Hampshire. Do you know who your GOP candidates are supporting? Bill O’Brien, Gene Chandler, Susan Emerson, and John Reagan have all announced, but the battle has boiled down to a two-man race between Bill O’Brien and Gene Chandler. I urge you all to contact your GOP state house candidates in your district, and tell them in no uncertain terms,  Support Rep. Bill O’Brien for Speaker of the House in the GOP caucus vote to be held on December 1st.

Read on to see the email that was sent out….

"Greetings to you all. I’m Tim Condon, the founder and current vice-chairman of the Republican Liberty Caucus of New Hampshire (the RLCNH). This email is being sent to a selected list of GOP candidates: Each of you have beliefs and principles that are "leading edge" ideas desperately needed by New Hampshire and the state GOP in their elected representatives. It also means that you will all be part of birthing a "New Republican Party" in New Hampshire, one radically committed to our ideals of small government, low taxes, low spending, personal liberty, and individual responsibility.

As part of the "New Republican vanguard," most—and possibly all—of you will be victorious in the November 2nd election. However, I am not writing to you about that, but rather about an extremely important race that isn’t even on the upcoming ballot…namely, the race for Speaker of the state House of Representatives. There are four announced candidates, but the real battle is coming down to a choice between Rep. Bill O’Brien of Mt. Vernon, and Rep. Eugene Chandler from the town of Bartlett.

Rep. O’Brien is one of the current leaders of the conservative (or libertarian-conservative) House Republican Alliance (the famous "HRA caucus"). Gene Chandler, on the other hand, has been speaker of the state house in the past. O’Brien represents new thinking, new leadership, new ideas, and new solutions for the New Republican Party in New Hampshire. Rep. Chandler, on the other hand, is part of the leadership of the Republican Party of the past. Although an honorable man, it must be pointed out that Rep. Chandler and other past GOP leaders in NH have allowed the state GOP to be brought to the sad state it is in today.

It’s time to bring in new new leadership for the New Hampshire Republican Party. Representative O’Brien in the "point of the spear" for that leadership.

You should all be aware that the constitution of the state of New Hampshire sets up a "weak governor" form of government (which is why we have an Executive Council, which is designed to acts as a check on a governor’s power). The founding fathers of New Hampshire were extremely wary of unchecked executive power (such as that of King George III). Accordingly, the NH General Court (consisting of both the state house of representatives and the state senate) has much more power than in many states, and it can be argued that the Speaker of the House in New Hampshire is equal to the governor himself as the most important and powerful elected position in the state (and if not, is almost certainly the second most important elected official, second only to the governor). This is why the election to be held in the state house on December 1st (less than 8 weeks from now) to choose the Speaker of the House will be the first and most important test of whether the Republican Party is going to reform itself into an activist, unified, solidified party with new ideas and solutions designed to correct the damage that has been caused to our state by the Democrats in recent years.

Both Bill O’Brien and Gene Chandler are gearing up their campaigns for the state house speakership. Votes are being counted by both sides. I want all of you to be aware that all the "New Republican" conservatives and libertarian-conservatives whom I know are uniformly lining up behind Rep. O’Brien. The RLCNH itself has unreservedly endorsed him, and the fire-breathing conservative and libertarian-conservative activists at GraniteGrok.com—the inside online political blog for the state of New Hampshire—have also wholeheartedly endorsed his bid for Speaker.

Because those of you receiving this email have not indicated support for either side in the unfolding battle between the Old Republicans and the New Guard Republicans, I want to urge you to commit your support to Rep. O’Brien now. If you have not met him, I urge you to call and talk to him personally. He can be reached at his office in Concord at 228-6610 (tell him I sent you).

If you already know Rep. O’Brien and intend to support him, then I urge you to contact Rep. Bob Mead, who is working with Bill, to let them know of your support. Both sides in the race are "counting votes" right now, and O’Brien and Mead need to have an accurate count of their support, the sooner the better. (Rep. Mead can be reached at his office in New Hampshire at 673-3203, or he can be emailed at meadrd@comcast.net. Either way, it is important to let them know where you stand.)

I would only add that I have known Bill O’Brien for several years, and have seen him working to make the Republican Party in New Hampshire one to be proud of. His ideas are in line with Tea Party favorites like Jim DeMint in South Carolina, Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania, and Michelle Bachmann in Minnesota. I have also worked as a lawyer with Bill, trying a week-long civil case with him in New Hampshire, and found him to be an excellent thinker and a superb tactician. If we want real change in the direction of individual liberty and small government in New Hampshire, we’re going to have to fight for it. The first step in that direction—after we win our new majority in the State House—will be to elect Bill O’Brien as Speaker of the House. So take action now and contact either him or Rep. Mead. I thank you personally for doing so."
