President Bush (12/16/08),
"I’ve abandoned free-market principles to save the free-market system,"
President Obama (6/1/09)
"Understand, we’re making these investments not because I want to spend the American people’s tax dollars, but because I want to protect them."
At least the first one might have really meant it. I have real serious doubts over the second one. These tell me there’s not much of a tinker’s dam between them for free-market principles. Bush did start the nationalization effort that Obama grabbed like a lost soul in the desert when spotting a bottle of water.
The second? I fear the cloying hand of government descending upon us all in order to "protect us". So, I ask you, reader: are you a child that needs protection? Especially with Amtrack as an example of Government running a business profitably on a continuous taxpayer lifeline (I wanted to be kind so I didn’t mention all the other bailouts…).
I will repeat – I will never, ever purchase another GM product until the Government has sold off its shares, the bondholders recoup their haircut at the hands of Obama’s scissors, and the new Board / Chair / CEO are gone.
And maybe, not even then….
