It’s still not over until the Fat Lady sings…..

No matter what happens in a few days, I believe that the Republicans have brought what ever beating they get (sigh….we get).  Why?  There’s lots of reasons – some out of their control (global financial meltdown), some engineered by the Dems (messaging does count – but so does the lack of one), and having the Press almost totally in the tank for the Dems (which, I believe, will have a far MORE long lasting effect on our Republic if their voluntary abdication of their roll in our society continues).

Conservative ideals win – as long as the politicians espousing them actually live, breath, and act by them.  Which they have not during the last couple of cycles.  Many Republicans decided long ago to be the "hold onto power / status quo" Repubs regardless of past history (just like Obama will find out soon enough with his tax increase policies – already, part of the Market meltdown is advance discounting of Obama deciding that being socialisticly "fair" and "neighborly" takes precedence over results oriented policies.

Thus, when I saw this, decided to link it up, as the only real shining bright spot for Conservatives has been the arrival of Sarah Palin onto the national scene (liberals and "snob" republicans exceptions noted and derided).  Right now, there is too much dross in the Party that refuses to police itself (e.g., Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska is a PRIME example of providing support when a trapdoor was more called for).

GOP seems poised for a total housecleaning

I have seen this happen once or twice: a complete meltdown. It starts as an uphill year looking tougher by the day. It ends like a load of bricks falling on the GOP’s head.

There’s one word that describes the reason for the rubble that likely will be on the Republicans’ heads come Nov. 4 – arrogance.

The fish rots from the head. And I’m not talking about the well-intentioned John McCain, this year’s winner of the "Bob Dole Sacrificial Lamb" award.

Instead, I mean President Bush, and, more importantly, those who served his administration by cajoling, misleading and betraying him. They transformed him into what came to look like a cocky buffoon. They encouraged a good man to self-destruct.

Conservatives today are frustrated that America appears ready to elect an untested and liberal newcomer, Barack Obama; and to do it with issues still looming about his past political beliefs and associations.

Voters aren’t rejecting conservative values this year
. All they know is that they can’t stand the inarticulate, pompous bunch that now speaks for and represents the Republican and conservative causes.

What will the Republican Party need to do if Nov. 4 turns into the sort of repudiation that puts comedians like Al Franken in the U.S. Senate and gives so-called "red states" over to Obama? Clean house. Fresh, new candidates will have to find the courage to challenge Republican incumbents.

Sarah Palin and others like her are the future of the GOP. It’s Palin’s humanity that energizes the party.

Let the house of cards collapse. Then the GOP can rebuild its whole party.

Nothing can be more fun or rewarding than having a cause greater than one’s own personal political greed.
