What is just so appealing to make your group look, feel, or sound like another? For a group that seems to be so vilified by the world (think Israel), why would anyone want to compare themselves to the Jews?
Answer: assumed victimhood.
Yes, by comparing oneself to a hated subgroup, advocates are trying to pull the wool over our eyes by making those poor, defenseless, illegal immigrants look like such oppressed people…..oh, you can just hear the sighs…..
Hispanic Groups Call for Moratorium on Raids
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Reuters) – U.S. Hispanic groups and activists on Thursday called for a moratorium on workplace raids to round up illegal immigrants, with some saying they were reminiscent of Nazi crackdowns on Jews in the 1930s.
Those who do not study their history are doomed to repeat it. And if not repeat it, mangle it. This is such nonsense!
The Jews living in Germany at the time were CITIZENS….legally there, they were being rounded up and harrassed – first to leave and then to be killed. Illegal immigrants are not being harrassed, they are being arrested because they have broken long standing laws – not "made up" ones created for pogroms.
Besides, isn’t it a truism that anyone that has to invoke Hitler or the Nazis to win an argument has already lost such?
They accused the Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement of "racial profiling," or selective enforcement against Hispanics, for arresting 1,300 workers on immigration violations in December 12 raids at meatpacking plants in six states.
Sorry, while I condemn racism in everyday life, when it comes to law enforcement, profiling (racial or behavioral) is a tool that has been slammed only due to political correctness. Face it, most Americans do not wish to be called racists, and any connotation thrown up by advocates for those that break our laws to that effect makes most people hesitate ("well, I don’t want to be a racist!"). And if such profiling can lead law enforcement to those breaking the law, shouldn’t that tool be used for the benefit of the rest of the public who are law abiding?
"We are demanding an end to these immigration raids, where they are targeting brown faces. That is major, major racial profiling, and that cannot be tolerated," said Rosa Rosales, president of the League of United Latin American Citizens, at a news conference.
Tell you what, Ms Rosales. Tell the illegal immigrants to stop breaking our laws and the raids become irrelevant! Otherwise, tell me what the next best tool in the arsenal can be used to enforce our laws?
"This unfortunately reminds me of when Hitler began rounding up the Jews for no reason and locking them up," Democratic Party activist Carla Vela said. "Now they’re coming for the Latinos, who will they come for next?"
See above – you lose, and you lose almost anyone with a head on their shoulders that does not buy into the political correctness of your argument. Or does not believe in your outlook that we should have open borders where anyone can come in.
And I will add, these illegal immigrants discriminate against legal immigrants by their very actions (go ahead, think about that one).
They also called on Congress to quickly to approve immigration legislation that would allow for "guest workers" to remain in the United States.
Yeah, now the real reason comes in…."guest worker" often times means amnesty which means citizenship.
I feel so bad for those that have followed our laws to be come legal citizens….and the chumps in Washington are like these "advocates" and don’t care a whit either…..
Chertoff said the raids showed that illegal immigrants, estimated to number 12 million in the United States, contributed to the problem of identity theft because they worked under false or stolen identities.
This is not publicized enough! What about all of the legal citizens that get hurt when illegals commit the crime of not only entering our country illegally but then steal the identity of working Americans and screw up their lives?
I don’t hear the advocates saying much about that not – do you?
Anger at anti-immigrant rhetoric and measures is said to have hurt Republican candidates with Hispanic voters in November elections that saw the Democrats win a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate.
LULAC, the oldest and largest Hispanic group in the country with 115,000 members, said workplace raids would cause families to be separated if the arrested immigrants were deported and also would hurt the U.S. economy.
Well, next time, think about what you might be doing to your families before committing a crime! This argument, too, is getting old. If we passed over a crime and the associated criminal because an "innocent" would be harmed, we might as just live in anarchy.
What ever happened to personal responsibility and the effects of not being responsible?
"Every labor-intensive industry including the hospitality, construction, agriculture and restaurant industries will be adversely impacted if these raids continue," Rosales said.
Yup, time to start sanctioning the employers…..big time.
