John Bolton - Granite Grok

John Bolton

They say that revenge is a dessert that should be served cold.  Not in this case.  John Bolton, fed up with the politics holding up his nomination (thanks in no small part to Chuck Hagel and Major Loser Lincoln Chafee), has decided not to allow his nomination to go forward.

This is a most unfortunate happening as I see him as one of the great UN ambassadors from the US in the mold of Jeanne Kirkpatrick and Daniel Moynihan.  He has spoken well, shown that he can mobilize our (sometimes) allies in difficult positions, and stood up for the US quite well.  Yet, posturing Senators have decided that their level of politics overrides what is best for our country.

However, over at NROnline, Kathryn Jean Lopez has this:

Today begins the Draft Bolton 2008 campaign. Hey stranger things have happened.Sam Brownback announced his exploratory committee today.

I have no clue if he would want this.  Based only, however, on what I have seen and heard of his time at the UN (and the rep that preceeded that – brash, un-PC, determined to do what is right regardless of stepping on toes, and demanding excellence), this would ignite my interest!
