Fences make good neighbors – about time

And it is about time that Mexico accept the rules it uses on its southern border by us on ours.  From CNSNews:

Congress Sends Secure Fence Act to President’s Desk

(CNSNews.com) – Congress Monday formally sent border fence legislation, also known as the "Secure Fence Act" (H.R. 6061), to President Bush’s desk for him to sign. The measure "will help us gain control over our borders by authorizing fences, surveillance technology, and other means necessary," House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner Jr. (R-Wis.) said in a statement. "The legislation will help provide what the public wants and deserves: a secure border controlled by the United States, not by the coyotes and drug kingpins," he added. Sensenbrenner noted that the bill did not receive as many votes from Democrats as was hoped for despite "overwhelming support from the public and House Republicans." Sensenbrenner added that "it is disappointing to once again see that over two-thirds of my Democratic colleagues in the House voted against this effort to gain control of the border. In fact, the Secure Fence Act even garnered 80 votes in the Senate, including from liberal stalwarts such as Senator Boxer and Senator Schumer.""

There has been discussion this last week – did it go?  Did it not?  Will he sign it?  Will he not (President Bush that is).

Frankly, if he doesn’t, a lot of conservatives may really double / triple think whether or not to punch the touch screen / pull the lever / poke the hole / pencil the stripe for Republicans.  While I fear the current crop of Democrats taking over the House, there is little that could be done by anti-illegal immigration supporters at this late date – the primaries are long gone to send a message.
