But they keep saying a wall won't work! - Granite Grok

But they keep saying a wall won’t work!

My biggest heartache (and ire) has been our President and our Congress has failed, up to now, to properly defend our borders.  We have spent billions on protecting ourselves, yet have failed to lock the door.

And what happens when some of our duly appointed folks who work on the border try to at least slam that door shut?  We’ve seen what happens to the Border Patrol when they use force to defend our border – they end up in jail and court instead of the drug dealers trying to cross over with contraband.  We’ve heard of the incursions of Mexican drug gangs that enter into the States better armed than our folks.

Finally, however, the House of Representatives stood up and stared down the Senate; the Senate blinked.  And then the President blinked too.

So now, we’ve heard a lot of about "the wall" that will be built along our southern border.  While it is only supposed to be about 700 miles long (with that border about 2100 miles long), I consider it a good start.  Others are also building walls, like those done with private funds a la the Minutemen.  The more "wall" that is built AND MAINTAINED AND STAFFED, the better that FIRST line of defense will be. More lines of defense still have to be considered.

Yet, for trying to protect our own border, to keep our land soverign, we’ve been compared to East Germany and the building of the Iron Curtain (silly people for doing that comparison, not realizing that the East German wall was meant to keep people in as opposed to keeping outsiders out).

We hear all the time that our wall is immoral; that it is separating countries and therefore, families.  We are shown examples of current walls, mostly in the San Diego area, that are in poor repair and easily breached by those wishing to cross illegally.  From the pro-immigration advocates, there is the argument that if we build a 20 foot wall, all that will happen is that we will see 21 foot ladders.  In fact, Mexico wants to take us to the UN and get them to force us not to build it, as it is "disrepectful" to the Mexican people.

And so on.  If we listen to those folks, we are just wasting our money, for this new wall will fail.

But let me ask this question.  If artificial walls are so bad at keeping people on one side or the other, how come the Communist Chinese (as opposed to Taiwanese Chinese) are now beginning to build a wall along their border with North Korea?  What gives them the right to do that?  And why do they can succeed with theirs when we, with all of our technology and money, should be failing with ours?

Simple:

They have guns and tanks on their side too.  And it would not be a far stretch to believe that they will be more than willing to use them.

Yet, where’s the international outcry about that?

Just wonderin’….. could it be……a double standard?
