We’re Still Waiting For Those Campaign Finance Report Corrections

It has been a week and a day, give or take, since we reported on House leadership’s response to several Election Law (specifically campaign finance) complaints. The Committee to Elect House Republicans (CTEHR) appears numerically challenged, having somehow misplaced over 169,000 dollars between 2022 and 2024. To provide a bit of contrast, I could probably … Read more

Ocasio-Cortez Could See Jail Time for Latest Campaign Finance Scandal

We have a new development in the campaign finance hijinks of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and campaign manager turned chief of staff Saikat Chakrabarti. As noted yesterday, the two are named in an FEC complaint that ties the two directly to a PAC that is alleged to have also financed Ocasio-Cortez’ primary campaign.

Ocasio-Cortez Campaign Finance Scandal Number Two!

Democrat Party Poster-Girl Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is up to her eyeballs in earned media. She’s also up to her eyeballs in gaffes and, yes – trouble. Voter Owned Campaign Finance Bill A Waste of Time and Money

The so-called campaign finance reformers are at it again. This time they’ve got a behemoth of a bill only Rube Goldberg could love. A massive, convoluted tome that adds a mountain of rules that would only impact six political races in the entire state. The Governor’s race and the state’s five Executive Council seats.  SB 304- FN-A is AN ACT … Read more

Liberal So-Called ‘Campaign Finance’ Group Backs Whiny GOP RINOs To Silence Speech

The digital ink was barely dry on this post when what to my wandering eyes did appear but a mysteriously funded left-leaning campaign finance “reform” group attacking AFP-NH for what amounted to following Campaign Finance Laws. Open Democracy(OD) is a left-leaning affair pushing the left-leaning policy ideas of leftists activist groups and just happens to be an … Read more

The Press, Corporations, Campaign Finance, and The First Amendment

Eugene Volokh is writing a series of articles on Free Speech and freedom of the press over at Reason. In this installment, he looks at exceptions afforded to a special class of corporate ‘speakers’ the professional press. Under any sensible accounting scheme, an editorial supporting a candidate would cost a lot in labor costs and the … Read more

Are Campaign Finance Reformers Ignorant or are They Lying to You?

We are increasingly living in an oligarchy where big money is buying politicians. We must overturn Citizens United before it’s too late. — Bernie Sanders (@BernieSanders) March 11, 2016 The unspoken half-truth behind this idea is that while money has influence campaign finance reform does nothing to fix that. Citizen’s United made it better. Campaign finance reform … Read more

Ohio Democrat Party Caught In Campaign Finance Bribery Scandal

And there’s a New Hampshire connection… (Hot Air) In a plea agreement that was unsealed today (PDF), a former chief executive officer of red-light camera company Redflex has pleaded guilty to bribing Columbus and Cincinnati elected officials. Karen Finley, the former CEO, was pressed by Democratic officials in both cities to make campaign contributions in exchange for giving … Read more

Data Point – Campaign Finance monies, most of it Democrat

Yup, the Left always complains about the amounts of money spent in political campaigns and that we HAVE to move to public financing of such, well, because MONEY! This is something that I abhor – why should MY tax monies be given to move forward an agenda that is antithetical to me (or visa versa, … Read more

Campaign finance – another whack at Mayday PAC and Larry Lessig

I had put up a post here about campaign finance that in the grand scheme of things, the amount of money spent on campaigns PALES in comparison to what Americans spend on other stuff.  Jim Rubens piped in on a comment speaking up for such a thing to be applied upon our Free Speech because … Read more

Campaign Finance – lots of complaining looks petty against other stuff

The last couple of election cycles we’ve heard nothing but blathering about how much money there is in campaigning – billions! It is a lot of money but in our media driven culture, it is costly.  But I also remember that in our country’s infancy, the price paid by those anonymous pamphleteers were paying a high … Read more

Blogline of the Day – another perspective on campaign finance

Why Campaign Finance Should Be Anonymous: If you support secret ballots, you should oppose campaign finance law. – Walter Hudson And, I will remind you, at a time when President Obama held the same views.  Such a demonstration of REAL Tolerance – Obama was given the time to “evolve” but the militant gay movement wanted … Read more

Stephen Colbert’s Campaign Finance Lesson

“Why does it get so complicated to do this? I mean, this is page after page of legalese,” Mr. Colbert lamented. “All I’m trying to do is affect the 2012 election. It’s not like I’m trying to install iTunes.”

US Rep. Frank Guinta (R-NH01) Laconia Townhall Q&A: Your campaign finances status?

This past Thursday, Frank Guinta, freshman GOP Representative from NH, had his first town hall meeting in Laconia, NH during his first "district work" week. After his introductory remarks, he opened the session up for questions from the crowd.  Certainly, it was a far cry from the Laconia townhall that Carol Shea-Porter (who Guinta beat … Read more
