Lithium batteries are dangerous. If you don’t believe me take a hazmat certification course to ship them anywhere. It’s a big deal. Lots of rules. They can’t be fully charged. Very specific packaging requirements.
If we ignore all the hard truths about lithium batteries, like inadequate resources, child labor, carbon footprint, manufacturing, and disposal problems, a world with more of these in them has created a challenge for firefighters. There’s no easy way to put them out.

Two guys are sitting on a beach; after some small talk, one mentions how they owned a business for many years until the fire. Luckily, they were insured. Everything was taken care of, and they could still retire in style. The second guy looks at the first and says, what a coincidence.
Electric vehicles cost more to insure. Minor accidents can result in damage that makes the vehicle unsafe or unrepairable. A parking lot fender bender could “total” your so-called green vehicle. But that’s not the only insurance cost driving up the price of EV ownership.

From “the things we already knew” file, Consumer Reports has found that “Electric vehicle owners continue to report far more problems with their vehicles than owners of conventional cars or hybrids, according to their newly released annual car reliability survey.”
The nations of the world are pursuing an unprecedented energy transition. Efforts are underway to force a shift from coal, oil, and natural gas to renewable energy sources by 2050. However key elements of the proposed transition suffer from major safety issues, specifically batteries for electric vehicles and electricity storage and hydrogen fuels for industry.

Electric vehicle batteries ignite at an alarming rate. The best estimate of these incidents is “too often,” and of the reporting, “not enough.” Lithium vehicle batteries catch fire incidents that go under-reported. As do the enhanced environmental hazard that burning Lithium Batteries presents.
