In 2014, NH Governor Maggie Hassan signed an unconstitutional buffer zone bill into law that allows an abortion business to take control of up to 25 feet of the public sidewalk and street and designate it as a no-free-speech zone where even silent prayer is banned.
Bill HB430, the buffer zone repeal bill, is up for a vote before the full NH House. It allows private abortion businesses to mark up to 25 feet of the public sidewalk and street outside their facility as a buffer zone where freedom of speech is banned, including silent prayer.
Gilles Bissonette of the New Hampshire ACLU made it clear to the City of Manchester that a proposed ordinance change might be unconstitutional. Paul Feely reports that by a 12-0 vote the board of Alderman approved a move that would “allow downtown business owners to control the use of sidewalks outside their storefronts year-round.”
