Does he wear a tinfoil hat to prevent "them" from reading his brain waves?

Is it any wonder that the devastated city of New Orleans is still a mess? Is it really George Bush's fault, or might it be possible that the hapless city's Mayor Ray Nagin is the cause? And when you consider that the city's voters reelected him, should we have a whole lot of sympathy? Consider hizzoner's latest proposition as reported by the Washington Post:

Nagin Suspects a Plot To Keep Blacks Away

New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin has suggested that the slow recovery and rebuilding of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina -- which has prevented many black former residents from returning -- is part of a plan to change the racial makeup and political leadership of his and other cities.
.
"Ladies and gentlemen, what happened in New Orleans could happen anywhere," Nagin said at a dinner sponsored by the National Newspaper Publishers Association, a trade group for newspapers that target black readers. "They are studying this model of natural disasters, dispersing the community and changing the electoral process in that community."
I wonder... who are these people that would do such things? Who are "they"?
Nagin suggested his chance at reelection in the mayoral race had seemed slim because "they dispersed all of our people across 44 states with one-way tickets." "They thought they were talking about a different kind of New Orleans," Nagin said. "They didn't realize that folks were awake, that they were paying attention."
Get it? "They" made the global warming that made the hurricane that provided the cover that "they" used to blow up the levees to create the flood that caused the evacuation thus sending "his" people packin'. Unfortunately, "they" weren't as clever as Nagin and he won the day anyway. He'll obviously continue to build his "chocolate city" whether "they" like it or not.
.
Not one dime of taxpayer dollars should be left in the hands of this nutcase to use at his discretion. Additionally, don't you think that if he was white, he'd have been run out of politics on a rail for racism a long time ago?

URI course on 9/11. The real deal, or more bunk?

Amidst the gloom and doom of the 9/11 conspiracy theorists like Ward Churchill and UNH's very own "nutty professor", comes URI's Professor Alain-Phillip Durand. Seems he wants his students to not forget the events and ramifications of September 11th and put some real thought into that tragic day. As reported by Jessica Medeiros in that school's student newspaper, "The Good 5cent Cigar", there will be a new class offered at the University.
11/28/06 - Are we in danger of forgetting about 9/11? Professor Alain-Phillip Durand is concerned that may be a possibility.
.
In an effort to prevent this, Durand has developed an honors class that will analyze fiction and non-fiction books and films that address the events of Sept. 11.
.
Durand said 9/11 is too often ignored in the classroom, and it is important to address so that students are informed and knowledgeable about the issue.
.
"I hope that after taking my class students will have a better understanding of the perspectives surrounding this event and also be able to confront the issues dealing with this event and memories of it," he said.
.
According to Durand, one of the best ways to achieve this is to expose students to literature and films relating to 9/11.
Of course, the devil is in the details. What works of "fiction" will be included? Is this simply cover for more of the aforementioned 9/11 tales about George W. Bush and the Israelis orchestrating the attack? While this question is not answered directly in the article, the editorial page of The Good 5Cent Cigar puts it like this...

Gorky Park redux...

The ongoing mystery of the now-murdered former Russian intelligence officer is the stuff of action-adventure-intrigue novels. You  know the story: Russian officer with the supposed "reformed" intelligence agency becomes disaffected, sees wrongs of "the system", defects. Reveals secrets. Hunted down by assasin sanctioned by the highest levels of the Russian government, and, sometimes, killed. With the case of Alexander Litvinenko, life imitates art...
.
The TimesOnline (UK) reports on the death of the Russian agent-turned Briton as witnessed by a friend:
Moments after he saw his friend pass away, Mr Nekrasov said: “I have been through a few things in Russia and Chechnya, but this is one of the most horrible crimes I have witnessed in my my life.”

“It was sadistic, slow murder. It was perpetrated by somebody incredibly cruel, incredibly heartless. It had no meaning whatsover.”

Although Mr Nekrasov had seen Mr Litvinenko sometimes more than once a day, Tuesday was the last occasion on which his friend could communicate properly. Yet in his final remarks, the former spy remained defiant in his battle against President Putin and the Russian security services.
.
You see, Mr Litvinenko wrote a book, Blowing Up Russia, in which he claims Russian security services blew up the buildings in the infamous 1999 Moscow apartment buildings terror attack in an effort to propel Putin to the presidency. Bunk? Hooey? Conspiracy? "Bush did the same on 9/11". Perhaps Litvinenko's claim is as silly as the Bush claim. Then again, maybe not. The perpetrators of the Reichstag Fire were never fully proven. And we're talking about the RUSSIANS here- who would say that their entire system does not resemble organized crime patterns?
.
When you throw in the recent murder of the Russian journalist following certain actions of the intelligence services, the plot thickens:
Mr Nekrasov revealed that Mr Litvinenko’s British citizenship had come through on the day of a service at Westminster Abbey for Anna Politkovskaya, a friend and critic of the Kremlin murdered in Moscow.
.
“We discussed the likelihood of another killing. Sasha warned me not to go back to Russia because it was too dangerous,” Mr Nekrasov said. “Very sadly he turned out to be the next victim, attacked in the perceived safety of Central London.”
.
Last night, Oleg Gordievsky, a KGB agent who defected to Britain, told Sky News: “It’s very sad news because he was a hero to Russia and a hero to Great Britain. He loved Britain as much as he loved Russia.”
Oh, and what does Putin have to say about all this?
An aide to Mr Putin said: “Of course it’s a human tragedy. A person was poisoned. But the accusations against the Kremiln are so incredible, so silly, that the President cannot comment.”
Like my Dad always says, "You can't ever trust the Russians." Dad's right. (again)

Is there something in our water?

As Skip reported in this previous post, it has been revealed that our state's taxpayer-subsidized university system has its very own version of Ward Churchill (9/11 victims = "little Eichmans")- UNH psychology professor William Woodward. The tenured professor  believes a secret group within the highest levels of the US government organized and perpetrated the September 11 attacks through the use of "steering pods" attached to the jetliners and explosives planted in the buildings.
.
Today's Union Leader provides some further details about the professor's courses and his classroom "teachings":
Woodward is teaching two courses this fall. PSYC 571 is described as an "historical introduction to some of the great psychologists and their classic works." The other course, PSYC 791, is a course that Woodward says he conceived a decade ago called "Psychology and Race."
.
In that course, he says, he introduces his 9/11 theory during a particular class session devoted to the subject of "state terrorism vs. individual terrorism."
.
Woodward said he shows a clip, roughly 10 minutes in length, from a film called "The Great Conspiracy: The 9/11 News Special You Never Saw." The film, produced and narrated by Canadian journalist Barrie Zwicker, contends the U.S. government's account of the 9/11 attacks is "the overarching fiction and crime and coverup of our time."
.
In the film, Zwicker claims the Mexican-American War, the Spanish-American War and the attack on Pearl Harbor "all involved secretly contrived attacks on Americans planned or encouraged by American Presidents."
.
"Many spectacular acts of terrorism are fearsome fakeries carried out by cabals within governments," Zwicker says. "And I mean our own governments."
While our enemies are indoctrinating their children with an automaton-like desire to murder each and every one of us, this is the garbage some of our children are being taught (at taxpayer expense) in schools of "higher learning."
.
Guess what? Professor Woodward isn't alone in having a platform here in NH to fill young minds with foolishness...

It's not free speech if my tax dollars are paying for it

Great, just flippin' great.  I thought that ONE professor trying this was enough.  At least I could understand the "why" part - that ONE was located in Madison, WI - an very liberal part of the Wisconsin state sponsored higher education system.  There, he has created quite for firestorm for wanting to teach a class (and I am specifically not mentioning his name - I have no intention of furthering his fame) - with the results that a lot of the politicos there are trying to cut the funding.

I understand and believe that free speech is one of our most cherished rights and a foundational peice of our governmental system.  If this "building block" is removed, a lot more will come tumbling down rather quickly.  Also, we know and recognized that free speech is not free - it has to be defended constantly, even within our own system.

That said, I do not want my tax dollars supporting this guy.  The Manchester Union Leader (the main paper of record here in NH) has this story about another professor teaching at UNH, William Woodward, is spouting similar stuff:

A tenured professor of psychology at the University of New Hampshire believes an "elite" group within the federal government orchestrated the September 11th attacks on America.
William Woodward has already raised that possibility in his classroom and later this year hopes to teach a class that would explore Sept. 11th "in psychological terms -- terms like belief, conspiracy, fear, truth, courage, group dynamics."

And how does he think this was accomplished?

The group contends that "pods" attached to the jet airliners actually steered planes into the Twin Towers and explosives planted inside the buildings were then set off.
The group also has advanced various conspiracy theories about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Woodward told the Sunday News he's convinced "there was a genuine conspiracy on the part of insiders at the highest level of our government."

And which group, pray tell, does this nutcase belong too?
