Virginia Drye – An Energetic, Fresh Voice for our Future

by Virginia Drye Candidate, NH House: Sullivan District 1

I’m 19, a Republican, and a woman.  There is no representation of this combination in my district, nor in Concord.

I’m running because, in order for young adults and young families to stay here in New Hampshire, we need young people serving in the State House.  For too long, our voice has not been represented at the decision-making table.

I may be young, but I am not inexperienced. I was born and raised in Plainfield.  I have been here longer than my current representatives.  I’ve been active in my community all my life,  especially in 4-H, where I was a 10-year member,  club president, winner of the Sullivan County Outstanding 4-Her Award, and a recipient of the 4-H State Achievement Award.

I learned my passion for government in the TeenPact Leadership School, practiced my knowledge of government at the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State Leadership Program, and polished my skills in the Vesta Roy Excellence in Public Service Series.

I am the youngest of 9 children, all of whom were homeschooled.  I know firsthand that education isn’t one size fits all.  I will fight for educational choice.

I will also look for ways to move to a biennium or reduce the number of legislative sessions so that our government could be opened up to more diverse representation.

I take inspiration from what Queen Victoria wrote in her diary when she ‘took office’: “I am very young, and perhaps in many, though not in all things, inexperienced, but I am sure  that very few have more real good will and more real desire to do what is fit and right than I have.”
