The mayor of London is seriously considering banning motor vehicles from certain areas around Parliment after a recent terrorist attack using a vehicle.
“I think there would be lots of challenges if we would do the whole square. It is a thoroughfare for cars, vehicles and commercial deliveries going through London. So it’s possible to have a designed solution … in keeping our buildings and people as safe as we can do. And also not losing what is so wonderful about our city that is a vibrant democracy, people can walk around safely.”
First, they came for my…wait, what did they come for first?
It was guns, right? Then knives. Now it’s cars, but only in certain places near the government because we want “to ensure that the people continued to have access to their government.”
Let’s not forget this warning from a few months ago.
You think I’m joking, but I’m only half joking because we’re watching neo-liberal anti-gun policy a few decades along the disarmament spectrum after the Hoggs and the Pelosis and the Shaheens, Hassans, and Kusters get what they really want.
They don’t tell you about this because this is what you get when you blame tools for things people do because you say you care about people but you really only care about your ideological agenda. An agenda that hates anyone who disagrees with it. An agenda where the ruling class has guns and everyone else gets harassed by the police state.
So, they’ll put up barriers and ban access until they have to ban them someplace else, which will happen because the problem isn’t guns, knives, or cars because “this is what you get when you blame tools for things people do.”
It’s a vicious circle that punishes the law-abiding because of the impotence and incompetence of those in power.
They prohibit carrying a concealed firearm in certain buildings, then more buildings, as many as they can manage until you can’t leave the house. Then they mandate stricter storage and handling rules in your house. All the while, the “price of admission” goes up until, within a generation, only the elites can afford it. And the next thing you know, the mayor is suggesting the government has an interest in the name of the safety of the people to prohibit transportation in cities whenever it is they decide.
It works that way with everything. That is why we oppose the ridiculous diversity, equity, inclusion, discrimination, councils, committees, and such. They are the next phase in getting you used to the idea of compelled speech, after which you soften to the notion of policed speech to a degree that makes it increasingly difficult to engage in the process at all without fear of incrimination or some form of civic punishment.
And they win.
Liberty comes with risks. Politicians taking yours “as the first line of defense” is not a defense of you but of their inability to manage other policy priorities effectively.
The terrorism problem in England has nothing to do with guns or knives or cars, and if the people don’t figure that out and push back every exercise left to them that approaches an act of free will, will be against the law.
