Is Edwards just another fake Conservative?

Eddie Edwards announced that won’t participate in the Republican primary debate tonight because he refuses to commit to supporting Andy Sanborn should Sanborn win the Republican primary in the First Congressional District.  How can anyone claiming to be a Conservative not fight to elect a Republican, let alone a proven Conservative Republican, versus what promises to be another leftist Democrat?

The consequences of Democrats taking control of the House of Representatives would be a disaster.  They would stop the progress that President Trump has made in improving the lives of everyday Americans, Trump has done more than any President since at least Reagan.

Who wants two more years with a Democrat Congressperson voting against the interests of the people of New Hampshire and our country?

Republicans have every right to anticipate sending a Republican to represent the First Congressional District in the House of Representatives.  But this isn’t going to happen if one of the leading Republican candidates refuses to support, or works against, the primary winner.

So, why would Edwards not support the primary winner?  Yes, there has been dirt thrown back and forth in this primary.  That is regrettable, but it’s no excuse for personal irritation to prevent helping the primary winner defeat the Democrat opponent in the General Election.

One wonders if the requested pledge to support the primary winner is the real reason for not participating in the debate.  Sanborn has demonstrated superior mastery of the issues and has a proven Conservative record, even when it meant fighting Republican leadership.  Perhaps the real reason for backing out of the debate is that Edwards doesn’t want to be shown up in such a major forum.

I’m really disappointed that Edwards backed out of the debate.  I was looking forward to seeing Eddie and Andy answering tough questions.  I was hoping the debate would help me decide who to support in the primary.

I met Eddie more than a year ago and I was very happy to see a Republican seriously getting started campaigning for the First Congressional District Seat.  He’s a great guy.  He’s running a great campaign.  He speaks well and says all the right things.  Only Eddie’s answers to questions about policy and the Constitution, which seem shallow, raised concerns about this commitment to his claimed conservatism.  (We’ve seen too many people elected by claiming to be conservatives who abandon their conservatism and join the swamp.)

Andy Sanborn entered the race long after Eddie.  Andy has committed to supporting the primary winner.  Andy has an impressive record.  And recently the depth of his knowledge of the issues has been clearly demonstrated.

I was looking forward to tonight’s debate, hoping it would help me choose between these two.  Since Edwards backed out, people won’t have this opportunity.

Edwards refusal to commit to supporting Andy if he wins the primary has answered the question for me.  If Eddie won’t commit to supporting a Conservative defeat the leftist Democrat candidate, then it seems to me that Eddie is not who he claims to be, and he is not someone we can depend on to serve as a Conservative in Congress.
