Question: GraniteGrok Meetups – Poll results

GrokSignal

Ok, ok – I’m a bit late with the results so here they are!  I asked four questions about doing GraniteGrok meetup where we Groksters would set some times up to physically meet with our readers:

  • When should they be held?
  • Chaos/ad hoc or slightly structured / agenda’d?
  • Location, Location, Location: where to have them?
  • Wallet time: would folks be ok with a cover price to meet expenses?

Hey, we’d do these for you – you OUGHT to have a say in these, right?  Well, here’s the answers you gave so let me tell you what we’ll do!

  • When – by majority, it was 61% to have them monthly.
  • Where – two items are the takeaways from this:
    • Rotation – I think this is a great idea to have it in different areas of the State; this will be done.
    • Location – if we are going to rotate locations, where will they be?   I originally put up 14 choices so as to cover the entire State geographically. The top picks were:
      • Concord: 57%
      • Manchester: 42%
      • Laconia / Portsmouth / Keene: 28% each

We’ll start with these locations and later, add in some of the others that got votes (Salem, Lebanon) or others that may come up as we roll this out.

  • How organized– overwhelmingly, a light hand on a limited agenda was preferred, 92%, over a free-for-all.  So, we can start with that knowing that some might devolve to semi-chaos.

Sidenote: I’ll date myself again but one of the funniest shows I ever watched was an old Mike Douglas variety / talk show (at least I think it was him – could have been another) when he had the cast of Mash 4077 on and they just plain ignored him.  I remember one cut where the camera was on him and he literally shrugged his shoulders, threw his hands up into the air, and exclaimed “I’ve lost control!” as the cast just kept on doing what they were doing which was rather hilarious in and of itself.

  • How Much – well, free is always welcome but life doesn’t always work that way. So here is the overall consensus if a cover charge is needed to get a room and defray expenses:
    • Free: 13%
    • Free to $5: 56%
    • $6 – $10: 48%
    • $11-$15: 26%

When it all tabulates up, frankly, you all confirmed what I was thinking in coming up with this idea for all these questions. So, let’s try to start this next month – details to follow!
