McDonald’s Drops the Hammer – Ordering Kiosks in Every Store by 2020

mcdonalds sign - Unions ending jobs inviting technology to replase peopleSpurned by meddling Democrats crying for government intervention in the value of an hour of labor McDonald’s began testing Kiosks in Europe. That expanded to here and there and over there.

But the time has come. No more fiddling around the edges. The trial period has ended. McD’s is putting self-serv kiosks in every restaurant on the planet within two years so kiss all those entry-level jobs goodbye.

As of 2020, self-service ordering kiosks will be implemented at all U.S. McDonald’s locations. Other chains, including fast-casual brands like Panera and casual-dining brands like Chili’s, have already embraced this trend. Some restaurant concepts have even automated the food-preparation process; earlier this year, NBC News profiled “Flippy,” a robot hamburger flipper. Other upcoming concepts include virtual restaurants which eliminate the need for full-service restaurants (and staff) by only offering home delivery.

While some consumers may appreciate the novelty or added convenience, the conveniences come at the cost of entry-level jobs.

Other cost pressures (coincidentally the result of Democrat interference) like government regulating health insurance have forced businesses to find a way to remain competitive, or in some cases just go out of business.

No surprises here. We’ve been predicting the destruction of hundreds of thousands of entry-level jobs as a result of public tolerance for Left-wing silliness for years. Mandates, licensing, and most recently the mindless zombie-like obsession with the arbitrary hourly wage of fifteen dollars per hour.

A tone-deaf prescription whose side-effects punish the very people its progressive purveyors profess to care.

Welcome to the real world.

McDonald’s gave millions upon millions of teenagers their start. Taught them basic business values, work ethic, how to punch a clock,  work with others, interact with the public, collect a paycheck, and rise through the ranks. They kick-started more careers than we can count. McDonald’s current CEO started out flipping burgers.

Me too.

I moved on to other things. But my ability to succeed in every job after that is directly connected to that first job and the work skills (and later management skills) they spent their money to provide.

Scheduling, product management, profit and loss, equipment and facility maintenance, quality control, employee training, cash handling, building security, personnel management, hiring, firing, customer relations, community involvement (being a responsible corporate neighbor), and a lot more.

Sure, other rising costs may have made this move inevitable as may the advance of technology – rumor has it McDonald’s has a great mobile ordering app – but government meddling accelerated it.

Yes, there will still be some bodies in the background but not as many and for how long? Busy-body politicians never rest. The only way to stop them is to keep them out of office.

That means voting for someone other than a Democrat might be the best way to save or create jobs.

Especially if they are entry level jobs for no-skill or low-skill workers. Jobs that can provide them with skills to help them function without the help of the government.

And isn’t that why the grow-government folks are out to destroy them?
