Funny, I never heard back from US Senator Elizabeth Warren when I emailed her back

333.  275.  185.  290.  124.  210.

That’s my latest sampling of how many days it took the National Guard to federally recognize the promotions of its servicemembers after those promotions had already been fully approved by their state command.   Just to be clear: these officers start doing the work of their new rank the day their promotions are approved – they just don’t get the pay increase or the time-in-grade credit until the Washington bureaucracy processes the papers.

120806_elizabeth_warren_605_apLike I’ve been saying lately, I get stuff from all over and from a lot of people.  Including a lot of Democrats.  You see, they all think I can be influenced because I’m a “registered Independent”.  Go ahead and chortle over that one – I’ll wait.

So, the US Senator from MA, Elizabeth “You didn’t build that” Warren sends me a LOT of emails.  Funny that, so do a lot of other Democrats; most of their names also keep being shoved into the Prez Wannabee mirror machine. But I digress. So Warren sent the above (in part) to me back on July 4th (full email after the jump)

So, she’s railing against the ineffectiveness of Government.  Big Government.  A Big, Sprawling, Paper Overridden, Slow as Molassas Government.  Imagine that….oh wait!

Huh? A rant from this Uber of Ubberest-Progressives (not many Progressives are to her Left, except perhaps that ninny 28 year old from the Bronx, but that’s another post)??? So I wrote back:

So, let me see if I have this straight…

You’re complaining about the Big Government that you are always…..advocating for more?

And this is the hubris of Progressives – always advocating that Government do more and that we just let it. That we should outsource our responsibilities for our selves, our families, friends, and neighbors (and generally not voluntarily) to Government believing that it can “give us Freedom from want”.

And she shows us that it can’t even correctly sign a bunch of paperwork in a timely fashion.

What’s worse, she doesn’t “get it” that she’s a major part of the problem in always wanting bigger and less accountable Government.  Then gets mad when it boomerangs back onto her noggin.  She constitutionally (see what I did there!) can’t understand “The Bigger the Government, the smaller the citizen”.

Happy July 4th from the Middle East
333.  275.  185.  290.  124.

And for the Guard, that’s become a real problem.

Over this Fourth of July holiday, I traveled to Iraq and Kuwait and met with National Guard servicemembers from Massachusetts and across the country serving throughout the Middle East. The three-star general who runs our joint operations in Iraq and Syria flatly said he couldn’t get the job done without the National Guard. Their deployments are long and their work is hard, but no one complained – not a single soldier.

But several Guard members – over breakfast, at lunch, in the helicopter repair bay, doing security detail – asked about my bill to make their promotions retroactive to the time they were approved by their state command.

I had pretty good news: We’re not home yet, but I’ve got a bipartisan proposal to fix the problem in both the House and Senate versions of the Defense Authorization bills. There’s work to be done to get the language into the final version of the bill, but we’re on the right path.

The way I look at it, fair is fair. The National Guard does their work to protect our communities here at home and defend us around the world. When America calls on them, they don’t delay – and they shouldn’t pay the penalty when the Washington bureaucracy can’t get their act together.

I’m writing this email on the Fourth of July, on my way back from the Middle East, headed home to Massachusetts. Back home, I know many of you are celebrating with parades, fireworks, hamburgers and hot dogs.

But I think one of the best ways we can celebrate Independence Day is for our country to honor its commitments to those who keep us safe. So today, I want to send a special thank you to our National Guard, our active duty military, our military families, and our diplomatic corps from Massachusetts and across the country – and to let you know that we’re fighting for you, too.

We’re grateful for all you do all around the globe.

Happy Fourth – and thanks for being a part of this.

Elizabeth
