From Michelle Levell

HUGE NEWS — Late last night the Senate tacked on the original ESA bill version to HB 1636, a charter school bill. This is awesome news!! This means it goes to House Education for a recommendation to concur or reject, or Committee of Conference.

Our objective is to get all our YES reps there for when the House votes on that. I’ll get a list to you asap for who we need to target. But this is huge!

The original Senate version is much

better financial structured (easier and a huge savings to the state), has broader eligibility with no income limits, and is the most-liberty ESA bill ever!

We’ll share that list when it becomes available.

[Update]

The entire NH House is expected to meet again next Thursday, May 10th, for the purposes of voting on all bills the Senate amended, including the charter school bill that has the ESA tacked on. The House will vote to a) concur, b) non-concur (reject), or c) hold a Committee of Conference to reconcile the different versions.

We need to contact (calls are best) every single YES vote (overwhelmingly our Republican and Libertarian reps) to ask them two things:
1) attend Thursday’s session on 5/10 and
2) support the Committee of Conference on HB 1636.

This does not automatically pass the ESA bill. It gives us a chance to put together another version for both bodies to vote on. The House has to work with the version the House Education Committee passed, but we’re hoping they can use the House Finance Committee Division II amendment instead as a starting point. They have to use a House version as a launching point. We’re hoping to sweeten it a bit further in the Committee of Conference, but we can’t do anything if we don’t get people there to support the COC.

I will share a list of the 25-40 reps we need to particularly focus on — those that missed this week’s votes who said they’d support the bill. I’ll post it here asap.

In the meantime, call your Republican and Libertarian reps, asking them to attend on Thursday and support the Committee of Conference.
