From Feb. 2016 to Feb. 2018 the global average temperatures dropped 0.56°C

Lisa Benson, Climate, Global Warming, HumorAaron Brown, writing at Real Clear Markets reports that, according to NASA Data, “the greatest global two-year cooling event of the last century just occurred.”

How could you have missed that news? It sounds a lot like Climate Change. The Climate changed, measurably, and historically, on the altar of the same NASA Climate Temple as all that “hottest this or that ever” news. How could the watchdogs, the scribes of truth and history, fail to report this?

To be clear, Aaron Brown has a lot to say in his piece, including that this two-year trend in the scope of the planets weather story, doesn’t necessarily mean anything in and of itself. It is the complete lack of reporting that concerns him.

My point is that statistical cooling outliers garner no media attention. The global average temperature numbers come out monthly. If they show a new hottest year on record, that’s a big story. If they show a big increase over the previous month, or the same month in the previous year, that’s a story. If they represent a sequence of warming months or years, that’s a story. When they show cooling of any sort—and there have been more cooling months than warming months since anthropogenic warming began—there’s no story.

And the typical climate cult media choir has ignored this at their own peril, according to Brown.

Then there is the danger of backlash. Suppose the next five months are similar to the same five months in 2017 and 2016. At some point the news will leak out that all global warming since 1980 has been wiped out in two and a half years, and that record-setting cooling events went unreported—in fact the headlines while they were occurring referenced warming from other times. Some people could go from uncritical acceptance of steadily rising temperatures to uncritical refusal to accept any warming at all.

There are a lot of problems with the media establishment’s handling of Climate not the least of which is that no one outside their bubble really gives a s**t. A circumstance that is only exacerbated by the dishonest reporting that Mr. Brown highlights.

It’s about as surprising to us as the Venezuelan dictator winning the “election” after overseeing the complete ruin of a nation and its people. The outcome is fixed. Everyone knows it. And they couldn’t talk about it if they wanted.

Which is why our interest on these humble pages is best described as poking fun at the history of the media and climate cultists by challenging their biased assumptions, which is why this is such a great story to share. The media climate news cartel is so smitten with the greater goal of government control of energy and by extension people (because that’s what socialism demands) that they must ignore anything that challenges the narrative.

And nothing says, “hey! That’s spot on” like a story about historical shifts in temperature that go completely ignored by the Fourth Estate because they are shifting in the wrong direction.

They couldn’t even be bothered to bring it up so they could make excuses for why it might not matter because that opens a door to another line of questioning about why what they do report might not matter either.

Brown goes into other statistical ways of looking at what appears as bias, which is worth a few minutes of reading but which can be summed up with,

There should be equal attention on warming and cooling records. Coverage should be based on how unusual the event is, not whether or not it increases support for favored policies.

That’s not going to happen, and I’m certain Aaron Brown knows that. The left is all-in on this scheme as a way to expand the influence of the regulatory state into the day to day lives of those they seek to rule. And they play the long game.

If they can’t get what they want this decade, their education monopoly will continue to propagandize next-gen votes until they’ve programmed the numbers needed to change the public climate on climate change. After which, the Aaron Browns of the world might not be permitted to write about unbalanced reporting or, more than likely, anything outside the regulatory state-approved narrative.

And it is a real shame that supporters of this specious experiment in pseudo-science don’t see the threat their advocacy represents to free speech. Even the imagined carve out for “The Press” (something that came under government assault as recently as Obama) is in danger. But they must just assume that all of their opinions will continue to be the right ones (until they aren’t).

When they run up against that wall will they have the sense to realize how they helped get there from here?

Probably not.
