“Criminals won’t register their guns and shootings will continue”

“They simply aren’t wired to connect the dots to the logical conclusion that no amount of laws will stop evil people from doing evil things….
…for the anti-gun fanatics, shootings are the gift that keeps giving

I’ve known Terry for a few years now as we both served on our hamlet’s Budget Committee. I always found him to be thoughtful and one who did his homework.  That said, he’s never been one to suffer a fool on either side of the aisle and in this Letter to the Editor, he hoists one on his own petard. Emphasis mine.

Isn’t it great when the clowns to the left claim to be “stuck in the middle with you”? They use words like “common sense” and “reasonable” as if there’s no doubt they are. The best part is when they claim they are pro Second Amendment because they own a gun and say that the Second Amendment is about protecting your house, like it’s true. Mr. Vervaeke should go back to school and read the Federalist Papers to find out why the Founding Fathers felt the right to bear arms is important. I hope that he reads what they actually said and not what he’d like it to say. Clearly, advocating for gun registration is exactly what the Founding Fathers didn’t want and preventing such measures is why the Second Amendment exists.

Our right to bear arms was not written to protect our homes, it was written to protect us against a tyrannical government (yes Mr. Vervaeke, it literally says that). That being the case, what good is that right if the government knows who has the guns? The Americans that fought the Revolutionary War had one distinct advantage over the British. The British didn’t know who had the guns otherwise, they could have simply confiscated them. A similar scenario played out many years later involving the French Resistance and the Germans. The French didn’t have a Second Amendment however, the fact that there was no record of who had guns is what made their efforts against the Germans successful and they were able to significantly disrupt the German’s military might with basic weapons.

Sidenote: that little incident that we call “The Shot heard ’round the World“? That was triggered by the British Redcoats marching to do exactly that – their mission was confiscate colonists’ arms and supplies.  That is to say, the “weapons of war” that the “soon to be Americans” personally owned and prevented a tyrannical government from becoming an even more of one. -Skip

Putting aside Mr. Vervaeke’ s ignorance on the Second Amendment, absolutely none of his measures would prevent a person intent on shooting people. Furthermore, it would do absolutely nothing to protect our schoolchildren. I say ignorance because I don’t fashion Mr. Vervaeke for a fool and he likely knows more about the Second Amendment than he lets on but for the anti-gun fanatics, shootings are the gift that keeps giving.

By no means am I saying they welcome shootings. They simply aren’t wired to connect the dots to the logical conclusion that no amount of laws will stop evil people from doing evil things. First they advocate for tighter background checks and when the next shooting occurs they push for longer waiting periods and then when the next shooting occurs they push for the next meaningless law, etc. Ultimately, it’s total gun registration and then when the next shooting occurs, we confiscate the guns.

What sensible people know is that criminals will NOT register guns and shootings will still occur. There’s plenty of evidence to prove that gun registration doesn’t stop gun violence. Even though gun registration laws are unconstitutional on a federal level, it is constitutional on a state level. How well is that working for New York, Maryland and Illinois where record high gun violence occurs daily? If the clowns on the left want gun registration here in N.H., they can vote for lawmakers who will pass it into law. Good luck with that.

Mr Vervaeke and Mr. Cracraft blame the NRA for lobbying for the gun manufacturers but it is actually people like them and the “March for Life” crowd that are responsible for record numbers of the gun sales. Gun sales skyrocketed during the Obama regime and while the “March for Life” was occurring, the NRA took in the most revenue ever in a single month, with 90 percent of its donations being $100 or less. Why would people like myself gladly donate to the NRA? Because we happen to think there are enough gun laws on the books that need to be enforced. We think that your proposals will not do a thing to protect our children from gun violence in schools. Frankly, we donate to the NRA to fight to protect our rights from further erosion by you Clowns on the left!
