Now That’s Progress-ive!

Digging up gravesChicago has excavators digging up some 38,000 human grave sites to build a new $70 million-dollar public school in Cook County.

Hooray!

It gets you thinking though that in the PC World of Chicago, no one, not even an Indian tribe, is concerned about disturbing the dead. Political correctness only stretches so far. Kids can sit in the new school and read about Indian tribes and how their graves and remains are not to be disturbed – because it is illegal:

The Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), Pub. L. 101-601, 25 U.S.C. 3001 et seq., 104 Stat. 3048, is a United States federal law enacted on 16 November 1990.
Organizations that accept Federal funds are included in the NAGPRA.

Some people are more important than others. That is the lesson Cook County teaches in this case. No fuss, no muss. (No lobbyists for the dead who were poor.)
