Mississippi: Restricting the murders of unborn children (pro-aborts all up in arms!)

baby in womb(reformatted, emphasis mine):

Republican Gov. Phil Bryant signed House Bill 1510, which bans most abortions after 15 weeks of gestation, on Monday in a closed ceremony attended by legislative supporters and abortion opponents…and was slapped with a lawsuit less than an hour later. The law and responding challenge set up a confrontation sought by abortion opponents [SIC – I think that should have been “future murderers – Skip], who are hoping federal courts will ultimately prohibit abortions before a fetus is viable. Current federal law does not.  Some legal experts have said a change in the law is unlikely unless the makeup of the U.S. Supreme Court changes in a way that favors abortion opponents.

“We are saving more of the unborn than any state in America, and what better thing can we do?” Bryant said in a video his office posted on social media.

Note that line:  who are hoping federal courts will ultimately prohibit abortions before a fetus is viable. Current federal law does not. Once again we see the Left, having failed in the Legislative process, turn to the courts, packed with like minded judges, to have them rule “legislatively” from the bench.  What should be done is to rule on the letter of the law and what is actually written and not rule on words that aren’t there BY DESIGN AND PASSAGE and “rule in” words out of thin air.

Oh, that viable part?

The law’s only exceptions are if a fetus has health problems making it “incompatible with life” outside of the womb at full term, or if a pregnant woman’s life or a “major bodily function” is threatened by pregnancy. Pregnancies resulting from rape and incest aren’t exempted.

I’m torn on the last two (rape and incest) but I ask the question: should an innocent life be subject to be killed simply because it was conceived as an act of violence? Yet, most of these same people will go to the mats to keep a convicted killer alive and off of death row. As Doug once said:

I’d be quite happy to stop the death of convicted killers if you will stop the killing of innocent babies.

When he said that as we were taping a TV show, the Progressives were stunned and had no comeback at all – there is no logical comeback to it UNLESS one truly believes that Life only begins after birth (a false and provable premise). I have never forgotten that line.

That aside, the Progressives / Democrats / pro-baby killers are all over the issue of “viability” any at cost.  They have to – they’ve spent decades propagandizing that unborn children, during their time of nurturing, are children.  They’re only “blobs of tissue and un-alive” – politically attempting to redefine the meaning of Life.  Yet, to my knowledge, “I am going to name my blob of tissue…” said no Mom anywhere.  Instead, as soon as they know, they are already making plans for the future.

As to the viability, does that mean that those severely injured on the battlefield or in horrendous accidents are no longer worthy of “nurturing”?  How about those in ICU – should the plugs be pulled to be consistent with this evil philosophy?  As commentor Dan said once, they can’t speak – so why not?  Well, neither can the very elderly at times, or those suffering from dementia, or as I said earlier, those in comas, deep in a (usually) severe illness, or accidents can’t either.  They can’t speak for themselves and need the nurturing of others.  Otherwise, why have the medical field at all (taking the argument to the ad absurdium end point)?

No, pregnancy is just the first stage of Nuture – even a birthed baby requires intense nurturing for a number of years; if left alone, they would die as well.  Unfortunately, there are a few on the Left ARE saying that “post-birth abortion” (sometimes up until the age of 5 years old) is acceptable.

What civilized Society condones that?

Mississippi previously tied with North Carolina for the nation’s strictest abortion limits at 20 weeks. Both states count pregnancy as beginning on the first day of a woman’s previous menstrual period. That means the restrictions kick in about two weeks before those of states whose 20-week bans begin at conception. Bryant’s prediction was accurate. The state’s only abortion clinic and one of the physicians who practices there sued in federal court within an hour, arguing the law violates other federal court rulings saying a state can’t restrict abortion before a child can survive on its own outside the womb.

The Jackson Women’s Health Organization, in a lawsuit handled by the Center of Reproductive Rights, argued the measure is unconstitutional and should immediately be struck down.

“Under decades of United States Supreme Court precedent, the state of Mississippi cannot ban abortion prior to viability, regardless of what exceptions are provided to the ban,” the suit states.

The suit says the clinic performed 78 abortions in 2017 when the fetus was identified as being 15 weeks or older. That’s out of about 2,500 abortions performed statewide, mostly at the clinic.

“Politicians are not above the rule of law, and we are confident this dangerous bill will be struck down like every similar attempt before it,” said Nancy Northup, president and CEO of the New York-based Center for Reproductive Rights.  “We certainly think this bill is unconstitutional,” said Katherine Klein, equality advocacy coordinator for the American Civil Liberties Union of Mississippi. “The 15-week marker has no bearing in science. It’s just completely unfounded and a court has never upheld anything under the 20-week viability marker.”

Actually, the science is proving, every few years, that the “age of viability” through the use of modern science, is earlier and earlier.  Do these same people wish to do away with infant NICUs to prove their point?  My Grandson, with a raft of medical problems, was born preemie by 6 weeks.  Without modern science and medical services, he would have failed the “viability” test.

A test, which in my opinion, is a canard for abortionists to use.  The better question is “is it a new life” and by all biological measure, especially that of chromosomal makeup, a baby’s life starts at conception.  They hate that, but that’s science.

“The winners (today) are those babies that are in the womb, first and foremost,” Gunn said. “Those are the ones we’re trying to protect.” Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves said in an email to the AP that HB 1510 is a major step toward accomplishing the state’s goal to protect the lives of the unborn, adding that he is committed to making the state “the safest place in America for an unborn child.”

When asked if the state is prepared to bear the cost of a lawsuit, Gunn said, “Absolutely.  I don’t know if you can put any value on human life,” Gunn said. “We are all about fighting to protect the unborn. Whatever challenges we have to take on to do that, is something we’re willing to do.”

Gosh, doesn’t the Left always say “IF IT ONLY SAVES ONE LIFE!!”

Hypocrites, they are.
