Who Covered NHGOP Call for NH Dems to Denounce Stevens 2A Ban?

freepass1If you didn’t get the email and you didn’t read it here, you might not know about it. About what? A State GOP email blast with a video asking New Hampshire’s Congressional delegation to denounce the idea of Repealing the Second Amendment.

Former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens posited the idea in a New York Times Op-Ed. But none of the Old New Hampshire media has touched the story, even in their new online portals. That includes WMUR, The Union Leader (didn’t make the Granite Status) and the Concord Monitor. Nothing online. No hits anywhere in Nexis.

Did anyone else cover it? Yes!

Michael Graham, Political Editor at NH Journal, has the only New Hampshire coverage I can find outside of our own.

He quotes perennial gun grabber and assaulter of women, Kathrine Rogers. She thinks the idea would be an interesting conversation starter. Can you believe this weather? How about this year’s Red Sox? What do you think about repealing the second amendment?

Michael shares NH Dem Party Chairman Raymond “Bomb The Hauge” Buckley’s spin. The longtime DNC vice chair made fun of it and used it to fund-raise. Fundraise to elect Democrats who would vote for any restriction on private gun ownership to come their way.

Then there was Bill O’Brien who scoffed at the idea of Democrats in New Hampshire taking any of this repeal business seriously.

Bill dares them to run for election supporting a repeal to see what happens. It would be bad for them. The problem is that they won’t run on it. But that doesn’t mean they don’t want it. They do. And when they get the votes, they’ll throw everything they can at the wall and hope it sticks.

These would be the same Democrats who (in the minority) tried to get a bump-stock ban and prohibition on purchases of firearms for those under 21 in the Granite State through a floor motion just last week.

And let me take you back in time to the bygone era known as this past Tuesday when I shared a tidbit from Kurt Schlichter.

[US Senate Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell needs to earn the base’s lost confidence by getting the GOP to toss out the filibuster rule and start passing our priorities because if these hacks blow the Senate majority (and they absolutely could) Chuckie Schumer will do that the first day anyway.

Schumer won’t say that, but he’ll do it the first chance he gets. Why? Because when it comes to advancing their agenda Democrats don’t mess around.

Remember when New Hampshire Democrats said they only wanted civil unions? What did they do the first chance they got a majority? Tried to pass Gay Marriage, which they got about 5 minutes later on the second vote after walking a few nays out of the chamber for a “break.”

They didn’t run on spending the state into an 800 million dollar structural deficit they could then use as an excuse to institute taxes, most likely broad-based ones, but they did that too.

Speaker O’Brien oversaw one of the most amazing things to ever occur after that session. The Republicans who swept into supermajorities in January 2011 cut all that spending. All. Of. It.

I am forever literally not in his debt for that.

So while I like Mr. O’Brien’s thinking and I consider Bill a friend, and he is way more politically savvy than I am, Democrats will always be happy to run on one thing and vote for another, even if it means they lose a House election or a majority for two or a few years after.

Move the needle no matter what. Get the bump stock ban. Get the under 21-year old prohibition. It doesn’t matter if it does what they say, safety is not the issue, control is.

And lest we forget, State Party Chair Ray Buckley is a longtime Vice Chair of the DNC. Gun control isn’t just on his radar. It’s who he is. It is who his party is. He knows it, you know it, but if we don’t pressure them into at least pretending they aren’t for it we’re giving them a pass they’d never give us.

A Pass the New Hampshire media would never give us. One they are already giving to the Democrats by ignoring the story just like we said they would.
