N.H. House: Votes Coming on Gender Identity Bill and Viable Fetus Protection Act

The House is scheduled to meet for three days next week (Tuesday through Thursday, March 6-8) to vote on more than 300 bills. Don’t let your priorities get lost in the shuffle! It’s time to call or email your own state representatives by Monday night. 

• Look up your district’s representatives and contact information here.
• ACT NOW! Representatives need to hear from you by Monday night, March 5. 
• Brief and courteous messages get the best results.
• If you send emails, send a separate message for each bill. Each subject line should mention the bill number, the desired vote, and the fact that you are a resident of the representative’s district. Sample subject line: “From a <town name> resident: SUPPORT HB 1680.”

HB 1319:
OPPOSE the Gender Identity Bill

Cornerstone recognizes the dignity of each human being, created male or female. Those struggling with gender identity deserve compassion and honesty. We oppose the conferral of special rights based on gender identity, and special rights are what HB 1319 is all about.

If HB 1319 is passed:

• Privacy is the first casualty.  Men who claim they are women will have a legal right to use women’s locker rooms and bathrooms, and there will be no way to distinguish transgender individuals from voyeurs claiming such status in order to exploit women. • On school overnight field trips, roommates would be assigned based on a student’s self-identified gender – not on biological sex. To do otherwise would be a civil rights violation under HB 1319.
• Schools won’t have to notify parents about radical transgender curriculum.
• Men who believe they are women would be entitled to the rights and protections of women, including access to women’s sports teams, scholarships, and business grants.
• Religious institutions, such as Christian schools and colleges, would be targeted by students who demand access to dorm rooms and bathrooms of the opposite sex.
• Anyone accused of a civil rights violation based on HB 1319 would be dragged in front of an administrative panel, not a court, without due process protections.

The U.S. and New Hampshire Constitutions already grant equal rights to all citizens. Employment and housing protections already exist.

Tell your representatives the truth: there is an objective biological difference between men and women.

Other Gender Bills

SUPPORT HB 1532: prohibit gender reassignment procedures for minors. The committee recommendation was “Ought to Pass” on a 12-8 vote, which means advocates of transgender procedures for minors will be fighting hard to overturn the committee’s recommendation. New Hampshire has a minimum age for the consumption and purchase of alcohol and tobacco, and even a minimum age for using tanning booths. Shouldn’t minors be protected as well from the irreversible effects of body-altering surgery and puberty-blocking hormones? Vote “Ought to Pass” on HB 1532. See Cornerstone’s testimony on HB 1532.

SUPPORT HB 1560: prohibit taxpayer funding for gender reassignment procedures. Remember the sneaky decision by the state’s DHHS commissioner to use Medicaid funds to cover gender reassignment? Ever since that administrative overreach, Cornerstone has heard from New Hampshire parents on the Healthy Families Medicaid program who want to know why DHHS will cover gender reassignment but not the medications their children need. Keep taxpayers out of the “gender reassignment” business and give families the coverage their children need. Vote “Ought to Pass” on HB 1560. See Cornerstone’s testimony on HB 1560.

HB 1680:
SUPPORT the Viable Fetus Protection Act

• New Hampshire is one of the only states where abortion is unrestricted throughout all nine months of pregnancy. New Hampshire deserves better!
• HB 1680 protects women’s health and does not prevent emergency care.
• HB 1680 provides for the care of preborn children who survive attempted abortion.
• HB 1680 leaves the determination of viability and decisions regarding the care of the woman in the hands of the woman’s attending physician.

Say NO to the abortion extremists, and say YES to the Viable Fetus Protection Act! Cornerstone salutes chief sponsor Rep. Keith Murphy and the co-sponsors of this important pro-life, pro-woman, pro-child measure!

Other Life-Issue Bills

SUPPORT HB 1787: Medical Conscience Rights. The Judiciary Committee made a poor decision in voting to recommend “inexpedient to legislate” on HB 1787. Medical personnel should NOT be compelled to participate in abortions, to any extent, for fear of losing their jobs. SUPPORT HB 1707: Abortion Information Act. It’s time for meaningful informed consent requirements for abortion, with language that is consistent with Supreme Court precedents. That’s exactly what HB 1707 provides. The Health and Human Services committee recommends Interim Study. SUPPORT HB 1721: ban coerced abortions. Abortion providers testified that they already screen for coercion, and the Judiciary Committee majority accepted that assurance. That’s not good enough. Freedom from coercion ought to be a woman’s right, not a privilege granted by clinic protocol. N.H. Senate to Vote March 8
on Change to Non-academic Survey Law

Contact your state senator and urge an “Inexpedient to Legislate” vote on SB 431, relative to non-academic surveys administered to children in school. (This is not a House vote!)

Parents fought hard last year for passage of a state law entitling them to advance notice of any non-academic surveys to be administered to their children in school. Let’s not retreat from that victory. SB 431 would create an exception for surveys “required to be filed by school districts to maintain federal funding.” Don’t let dollars don’t trump parents’ right to advance notice. Tell your senator to vote “Inexpedient to Legislate” on SB 431.  You can customize message to all senators by using this link.
