Who Ordered the Removal of these Signs In Milton, NH?

Clean sweepBy Les Elder

If anyone knows who had these signs made, they can be placed on private property, and I know people that want them.

But per RSA 664:14 and 664:17 all political advertisements must include identification and signature of the person posting the sign on public property or a State or Town Right of Way. If this information is missing the signs will be removed by the Milton Public Works Department in accordance with State Law.

One could argue that the signs are not political, but an expression of free speech.! So, who ordered them to be removed on such short notice? I can’t believe that Pat Smith would be a party to this after all the support that his department has received… especially with the hefty raises and generous health care benefits! Possibly a candidate for Selectman that is an incumbent and is worried about his chances?

Someone made a subjective decision to segregate one sign as “political” and apply the full letter of the law to that one sign, but not all of the others on public property. We have a right to know who made this decision and who made the order for town employees to carry out this mandate.

For those that had your signs taken down, they can be reclaimed at the Milton Department of Public Works. 652-9891.
