Net Neutrality – nope, not the State’s business

internet-access-530x397

This has been sitting in my stack of stuff since mid-December, so it’s time to FIFO the stack. Our Democrat Congressional Coven just can’t seem to let go of the idea that Government has to do everything for everybody at every time.  Especially troubling to them is if Government ratchets up the regulatory environment, it can NEVER EVER be loosened.

Like with Net Neutrality.  The Obama dominated FCC decided that the Telecommunications Act of 1930 something (which monopolized the telephone common carriers and put them under strict scrutiny) was just the thing to use to put the Internet Carriers under the more stringent FCC rules than the more light-handed FTC ones.  Frankly, this was agitated by the Marxist / Socialist / Big Company rent-seekers that wanted to effectively take away the carriers’ ownership right a la Italy’s Mussolini fascist government (where you may own your cow, but we will tell you HOW you can own and use your cow).

That didn’t sit well the Democrat Socialists around the country, and a number of those States’ Attorney Generals sued to rollback the rollback.  And our Coven Creatures desperately wanted NH to join in with the suit – “YOU CANNOT TAKE THE BIG OUT OF BIG GOVERNMENT!” they screamed (reformatted, emphasis mine):

The state’s top prosecutor sided with his governor and against the entire congressional delegation, taking a pass on joining any lawsuit that challenges the Federal Communications Commission rules on net neutrality. The all-Democratic delegation last week had urged Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald to join a growing number of state lawyers who are at least considering a legal challenge to the FCC’s 3-2 controversial decision last week.

Oh, the horror of it all!

And I’ll give NH AG, MacDonald kudos for standing up for the right principle:

But MacDonald said it’s properly a federal and not a state matter. “Federal telecommunications policy and regulation is a matter reserved for Congress and federal agencies and, thus, is outside the jurisdiction and expertise of this Office,” MacDonald wrote the delegation. “We will monitor Congress’ response to this order. New Hampshire will not be joining a lawsuit on this matter. This Office will continue to enforce vigorously the consumer protection act and all other laws to protect New Hampshire consumers and business.”

And of course, this went over like a lead balloon with Hassan, Shaheen, Shea-Porter, and Kuster (uber-Progressives all) for they no longer see any division of Government at all.  It’s like what the Democrat Party said a while ago” Government is the only thing we all belong to” (emphasis on the belong and that includes the States in which they collectively just want to go away and just have the One Fed To Rule Them All (amazing what power does to Democrats – it never satiates them and only leaves them wanting more).

It didn’t take long for Senators Maggie Hassan and Jeanne Shaheen along with Congresswomen Carol Shea-Porter and Annie Kuster to register their displeasure.

“It’s very disappointing that no sufficient reason has been provided for New Hampshire not joining other states across the country in a lawsuit opposing the repeal of net neutrality rules,” they wrote. “Considering the broad public support for net neutrality and the real threat this repeal poses to business innovation and the consumer experience online, New Hampshire should be leading efforts to reinstate net neutrality. In Congress, we are supportive of legislative efforts to reverse this FCC decision. However, this does not preclude the state of New Hampshire from leading similar efforts through our judicial system.” Executive Councilors Chris Pappas and Andru Volinsky, also Democrats, had made the same request.

I think MacDonald had a perfectly good reason along with Sununu – this is not a State issue.  It’s just that the Coven disagrees with it and so calls it of no account at all.  Hey ladies (and I use that word liberally – heh!): go do your jobs.  Oh, that’s right – you can’t because you are politically neutered and can’t get anything done except wail at the midnight sun!  So you are all showing us the typical Progressive reaction to having lost that political power in the legislation – take it to the courts (your very special brand of “special legislatures” when you can’t get it done yourselves).

Sidenote: and pretty soon, that is going to get cut off as Trump is appointing young conservative originalists to the Judiciary that will be around for decades.  Slam that door shut, Martha!

No kidding, Chris:

Gov. Chris Sununu said getting rid of net neutrality will lead to a more free market and concerns about its repeal are overblown.

“I am not convinced that a repeal of a rule that went into effect just two years ago is going to have the adverse impact that some are claiming,” Sununu wrote in a statement.

“In a free market, it is the consumers that will ultimately make choices that will incentivize companies to provide a better product.”

WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE was basically the Democrat message – NOBODY will be able to use the Internet except at 300 baud bit rates (right, as if our Coven even knows what baud stands for).

Sorry Chris, but our Coven and their other Democrat spawn will NEVER accept that it is “the consumers that will ultimately make choices” – they HATE the free market because they don’t trust “Big Companies” yet they never acknowledge that Big Government is even worse.  None of them believe, especially Shaheen, Hassan, and really especially Shea-Porter, that we can make decisions for ourselves better than they can; that doesn’t click with those Socialists.

Oh, for those of you on the Left that don’t like me calling them Socialists, just have one of them contact me at Skip@GraniteGrok to tell me what the difference is between a Democrat and a Socialist.  After all, a true red Socialist almost became the Presidential standard bearer of the Democrat Party.  I really would like to see that explained to me!
