A good guy with a gun; variant on “Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition”?

To that latter phrase: When Pearl Harbor was hit in a surprise attack at dawn, in 1941, the scattered American forces were pinned down by the charging Japanese Zero planes. The legend says that during the attack one army chaplain was among the defenders who were returning small-arms and machine gun fire on the oncoming fighters. In the heat of the battle, he was asked by the men to say a prayer for them, as they were afraid that those were the last moments of their lives. It is said that the chaplain lay down his Bible, manned one of the machine guns and shouted: “Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition”. This gesture boosted the morale of the soldiers and they continued the defense of the harbor.

Once again, a man of the cloth invokes his God-given Right to self defense when his home was broken into (emphasis mine, reformatted):

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. – A family is safe and a home invasion suspect is in the hospital after a shooting.  Deputies said a homeowner fired shots at a man breaking into his house. It happened Thursday morning on the 800 block of Santa Fe Trail in Cherokee County.

The family heard someone breaking the glass of their downstairs window. The father [Keith Beck -Skip], who Channel 2’s Steve Gehlbach confirmed is the pastor of a Baptist church in Bartow County, then grabbed his gun. Deputies said he shot Simmons in the head as he was coming in the house.

A neighbor, Bill Kennedy, told Gehlbach the Beck family heard the intruder breaking into their basement window. “Come to the door and she was screaming, ‘Invader in the house!’ and her two kids were still in there asleep,” Kennedy said. The suspect has been identified as 19-year-old Donavan Simmons. He was rushed to the hospital and now faces charges.

Beck does not face any charges. “I think he did the right thing, protect his family,” Kennedy said.

Me too.  You know, much of today’s turmoil is because people won’t leave well enough alone and either want control over peoples’ lives or their personal and private property.  Simmons made a decision to that he was more entitled to other peoples’ property than they did (or worse, to cause harm to them, or both) – he has now suffered the consequence for making that bad decision.  It was, however, a good decision on the part of the Pastor to defend his family.  I don’t care what the feminist SJWs yodel about “toxic masculinity” – the Pastor’s proper masculinity kicked in to put himself in between his family and the threat to his family to protect them.  That is a proper role of a husband and father and I am glad to see that no charges will be filed for fulfilling that role.
