Another example: when illegal immigrants are fired, American workers get higher pay

ICEWe keep hearing that illegal immigrants are a “boon” to our economy – this example (like the meat packing plants of a few years ago) shows that American workers see a “boon” when illegal immigrants, working at lower wages, are removed from the workplace (reformatted, emphasis mine):

A huge Chicago bakery is now hiring Americans at higher wages, following a federal immigration enforcement action which forced the firing of 800 illegal immigrants. The forced departure of the illegal-immigrant workers at the Chicago-based Cloverhill bakery was a financial shock to the Swiss company which bought the bakery from a U.S. investment group in 2014. The illegals comprised one-third of the bakery’s employees, so U.S. sales fell by seven percent when the enforcement forced the company to rebuild its workforce by hiring Americans

Decisions have consequences and Cloverhill is finding out the HARD way – first through loss of potential sales due to not meeting demand (and causing no small amount angst to their customers because of lack of product) and now a higher cost of business.  That latter item should have been an on-going cost of business if they had stayed legal in the first place.  I have no sorry for the management as they brought this upon themselves:

“It’s proceeding very, very slowly because it’s like having a brand new factory and a brand new workforce,” Chief Executive Officer Kevin Toland said on a call with analysts. “That’s presenting a lot of challenges, as you can imagine” … The increase in employment costs — which is affecting retailers and restaurants nationwide — will eventually lead to higher consumer prices, Toland said.

Sure, a higher price due to the artificially low prices due to an illegal workforce.  This is like the murderer of his parents demanding mercy from the judge as now he’s an orphan.  Notice he shows no remorse for taking away those jobs from Americans – those that should have had the jobs in the first place but for the presence of illegals.  As you can tell, I have no truck with firms actively and willfully breaking the law.  I hope they get socked with tons of fines and penalties.

“America First” – in this regard (and to steal and re-jigger a campaign phrase), “I’m with him”.  I hope ICE does this same action a LOT!  You cheat, you lie, you ignore the law – pay the price.  May it be sky high.
