Good guy with a gun defends his family

holstered-gun1Yes, a tragic story but a husband and father’s responsibility is to defend his family:

According to CBS 4, police indicate that Walker literally kicked down the front door of the apartment, then rushed inside. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officer Aaron Hamer said, “It appears he was yelling to get into the residence because he believed his kids were in the house. It turns out the kids inside did not belong to him.”

The resident of the apartment — a father with a two-year-old and a four-year-old — opened fire on Walker, fatally wounding him.

Hamer indicates that the resident warned Walker that he had the wrong apartment before he kicked in the door. Walker’s ex-wife and his children live in the same apartment complex but are in a different building.

Hamer said, “It’s a very tragic situation. Obviously we don’t want to see anyone lose their life especially going to the wrong home thinking their children are in there.” But he added, “The law says in Indiana if someone is coming into your home and you believe you are in danger, you have every right to protect yourself.”

As it should be.  Who knows what kind of violence Walker would have perpetrated on that Dad for the wrong reason and place?

Tragic, but when a SWAT team has the wrong address on a warrant, “Oops, our bad. Sorry about shooting your dogs and your husband”.

It seems very likely that it would also have been tragic had the “gentleman” been kicking down the door of the “right” house. I’m not overly impressed with the officer implying it’s understandable because he thought he was at a different place where his own kids were.
