I don’t even know what to make of this

Post-TruthI get tons of mail, solicited and unsolicited from commercial companies, friends, media, and advocacy groups. One of them is Campaigns & Elections which is a trade rag for those that are interested or work in campaigns. Like almost every other trade, they have their own confabs to talk about whatever it is they love to yak about and this group is no different. But I was a bit stunned to see what one of the breakout sessions was about (emphasis mine):

The prelim agenda for Campaigns & Marketing Summit in Washington, DC on November 13th is now live. Check it out here.

Sessions include:

Delivering a Message in Less than 10 Seconds: The Snackable Era of Advertising
How Artificial Intelligence Will Transform Political Campaigns
Virtual Reality: Moving from Story Telling to Story Living
Developing an Ad Campaign in the Post-Truth Era

Post-Truth – a time in our lives when there are no absolutes (thanks to the relativistic morality of Progressives) because the Left decided that everyone can define “truth” on their own.

That means there is no one thing, either a physical item or an idea that we can say “see -> there!” and we can agree on it.  Not a great way to define, nurture, and grow a society – but it’s a great way to destroy it as we are now seeing.  The Left is always saying that we all have to “come together” – but around what?  It’s impossible when you point to something and no one can agree on what “it” is or for what it stands or how important it may be.  And worse, if it is “right” or “wrong” – nobody has a shared view.  When there are no shared values that can be found, what holds that Society together?  Sounds like another post, eh?

I have to hand it to them for recognizing it but what kind of mischief does this Pandora’s Box unleash when those running campaigns decide that anything goes?  We, the electorate, are listening to what the messages are, what the candidate says, and what the surrogates reinforce.

Post-Truth – so how do we now choose our candidates?
