“What Does it Mean to Be a Republican?”

Alternate title: John Thune: Health care debacle makes Republicans look ‘dysfunctional’

Look?  Really, you had the stones to say “look“, Senator?  Are you freakin’ serious?  Is there ANY doubt left? You must be delusional to think that we are SO delusional to even think of accepting that lame spin. But given what Congress has done lately, that could be considered a serious attempt at PR.

This post’s actual title is from a piece in Townhall by Lt. Col. Allen West (ret.), a favorite of the ‘Grok because of one enduring quality (OK, a few): steadfastness.  He knows his principles and never sways from them – and doesn’t hide from them.  And has no problem in pointing out others that TALK the WALK but refuse to actually move their legs. He asks a couple of questions (bullet pointed, emphasis mine):

  • …what is rather perplexing is that the latest iteration of the Senate healthcare legislation entails Republicans advocating for maintaining Obamacare taxes on “the rich”. Why are Republicans taking up the progressive socialist mentality of class warfare and wealth redistribution, along with using the tax code as a weapon against a targeted segment of our society?

  • …why are there Republican Senators who embrace the idea of Medicaid expansion? In other words, do they truly believe in the expansion of the welfare nanny-state, the dependency society?
  • Twenty-four Republicans embraced a belief that the American taxpayer is now financially responsible for the choices of an individual confused about their gender.

We know who the progressive socialists are and what they stand for. Their ideals are wealth redistribution, nationalization of production, expansion of the welfare state, social egalitarianism, and secular humanism. The real question now is, what does it mean to be a Republican?

Sadly, it is getting harder and harder to know that answer.  Sure, they say one thing but their actions fall into line with Democrat bedrock principles.  Why does it seem, at the national level and here in NH, that Republicans are adopting and internalizing the Democrat / Socialist philosophy that the State MUST be responsible for us (because we can hardly tie our own shoes without them)?

As Ed points out here, we’re dealing with a few RINO-DINOs with Senators Susan Collins (RINO-ME) (hey, it fits!), Lisa Murkowski (RINO-AK), and Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.).  Each of which decided to NOT repeal Obamacare.  The latter two did vote for it in 2015 – McConnell (who has lost any control he and the pundits thought he had) while Collins didn’t.

In a lot of eyes, they decided that the Democrat top down control and command system should be in control – why else keep it.  Oh sure, Collins said she wants “bipartisanship” – something either entirely and utterly naive  or just outright stupid.  Sorry, there is no “common ground” anymore between the two Parties – none at all.  Murkowski wanted a replacement ready before repeal – really?  You know what that means?  Buy into the Socialism idea that I stated before – the Government MUST take care of you the way IT wants to.  Liberty?  Freedom of choice in this for ourselves?  Naw – only freedom of choice is to kill a baby in the womb. Capito wants to keep Medicaid Expansion that basically sucked in single, childless workers onto the Govt dole – PLEASE tell me how that (and the rest) are Republican ideals??  Jeb Bradley and the rest of the NH Republicans – can you ‘splain how that works (to the point of lying to my face about it)?

Democrats are for Socialism where Government is in control.  These three “Republicans” obviously agree.  A lot of others seem to as well.  I just don’t get it – this IS A FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLE!!  One of “who chooses”?  Do I, do you, get to decide what is best for us?  That DC or Concord gets to decide for us simply because a few figured out how to get a few more votes than the other guy?

Where is the respect for us?  Where is the respect on WHY and HOW we were founded as a State as well as a Nation where government was supposed to protect that set of Rights – not abridge them little by little?  Got any answers, GOP, any at all for this betrayal?  I get a “NO” answer to legislation that doesn’t do what it was propagandized to do (both the House and Senate bills) – neither would have actually done what they promised to do.

Consistency breeds Trust yields Votes

What do Republicans stand for?  I thought I used to know; I don’t know any more.  They aren’t Consistent across the board, across the range of issues and actions.  How can anyone Trust these Quislings to their own principles (unless you are a Republican Republican for the sake of the Republican Party and are willing accept anything the Party does)?

So, the Debt Ceiling is coming up – tell me, dear readers, what will the Republicans do?  Will they start chopping at costs and thinning down the Federal Government?  Or will they raise it again (and put our children more into debtors’ prison)?

Yes, I josh. They chose to “not do”. To end, let me quote the Colonel again:

What does it mean to be a Republican? Republicans don’t know, they are too busy acquiescing, compromising, and appeasing those who would never do the same for them. They are fundamentally confused as to who they are, and that for which they stand. The greater population of America are conservative, they believe in faith, family, individual liberty, economic freedom, better education opportunities, working hard to care for themselves, and being a strong and secure Nation.

It doesn’t appear that many Republicans actually believe in the principles of unalienable rights such life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness endowed to us by the Creator. They are just a lighter version of progressive socialists….progressives.
