Trump uses Newt’s creation to cut regulations: Booker seeks to restore Obama’s red tape!

The MSM doesn’t like to spread the news about Trump’s quiet successes deregulating a wide swath of last-minute Obama regulations, which were handed down by executive agencies in a hurry once Barry realized that his legacy was not going to win the election for Hillary Clinton.

The Congressional Review Act was one of the creations of Newt Gingrich along with his “Contract With America” agenda, and I salute him, not only for getting such a worthwhile tool through Congress, but also persuading Bill (The era of big government is over) Clinton to sign it into law. It was meant to protect the country from regulation-happy presidents like Clinton and Obama, and saw only one use prior to Trump, when George W rescinded a Clinton Administration OSHA regulation.

What the act does, is provide congressional oversight of administrative regulations up to 60 legislative (congressional working) days after Congress has been notified that a regulation is final. Regulate in haste, regret at leisure – not only does 60 legislative days run 4-5 months, but Obama and his minions were in such a hurry that they actually forgot the official notification to Congress for some of the new regulations. As a result, Congress has passed, and Trump has gleefully signed 14 bills rolling back many of Obama’s late-term abominations! You can see 13 of them, with explanations, at the Daily Signal.

But wait, there’s more goodness in the CRA, which is why the left are apoplectic over its use by the GOP and Trump – it essentially forbids the reinstatement of the regulation, specifically barring different language with similar intent, unless Congress passes a bill explicitly authorizing it. So, you see, Trump realizes full well that Executive Orders and counter-orders are ephemeral things, but a CRA smackdown of an unwanted regulation is as near permanent as an act of Congress can be!

Which brings us to the, ahem, jokers in the woodpile, where Senator Corey Booker (D, NJ), he of the somewhat fevered imagination, who was once called “The Senator from Obama” because of his close relationship with the former “dear leader,” is fighting to retain these late embellishments festooned upon Obama’s regulation-encrusted regime.

We hear from the Daily Caller (via the Daily Signal) that:

Democratic New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker wants to make it more difficult to remove government regulations through congressional review, Reuters reported Tuesday.

The untitled bill introduced Tuesday (May 17th), temporarily called “A bill to repeal the Congressional Review Act, and for other purposes,” is cosponsored by New Mexico Democratic Sen. Tom Udall. (It should just be called “the repealing the repeals act”)

The bill would reinstate the 14 regulations that have been overturned in the past several months. The Congressional Review Act also prevents agencies from reinstating the rules repealed by Congress, and Booker’s bill would end that ban.

Yup. The Era of even BIGGER government would be back with a vengeance – don’t let these jokers get away with it!
