“Ring! Ring!” – Now the Stupid Party also wants to be known as “The EXTREMELY ANNOYING Party”????

Cell phone vmailIt’s bad enough that politicians DO believe themselves to be above the law when they “carve out” exceptions for themselves when they lay the law down on the rest of us.  That “Do Not Call” list?  Isn’t it REALLY annoying to get them during supper? Yeah, politicians exempted themselves from it. And here in NH, the political calls are incessant during the political years, especially during the First in the Nation Primary season (which lasts almost 4 years nowadays….sigh). The robocalls are just the worst!

And now the GOP has decided to go there – allowing calls to go right to voicemail and you’ll never know that the call you though was from your family is from a GOP candidate or agency. This goes WELL beyond obnoxious: RNC Lobbying FCC for a New Way to Annoy Us With ‘Ringless’ Voicemail Ads (emphasis mine):

Now there’s possibly a new way to annoy us being reviewed by the FCC. The Republican National Committee is pushing the agency to adopt a new technology that would allow telemarketers to leave prerecorded messages on our voicemail without the phone ever ringing, Recode reports. We would simply get a notification that a voicemail was received, mixed in, of course, with more important voicemails.

Current laws prohibit calls by telemarketers if the recipient has signed up on the do not call registry. While many ignore it, most reputable organizations and companies abide by the rules. But, apparently, they feel left out from the right to annoy us. So they want to use this new technology that avoids ringing. Their logic is that this should be legal because if the phone never rings, it’s not a call. As a result, they are now petitioning the FCC to allow this new form of messaging. They argue that they shouldn’t need our permission to auto-dial our mobile voicemail inboxes directly to leave an advertising message.

Oh. My. Gosh – and the RNC is JOYFUL over this?  Sorry, this will make life a living cell phone hell.  Yes, politicians have the right to speak under the First Amendment but remember – that right to speak on their part does NOT mean that we have to listen.

Apparently, they’ve made the decision that they CAN alter the First Amendment by fiat and MAKE us listen.

Fortunately, they can’t make us vote for them.  They do this?  Just another reason to not vote for them as it’s about the only way we can punish them for being that annoying.
