Niki Haley – the new Jeanne Kirkpatrick?

“…Any country that chooses to defend the atrocities of the Syrian regime will have to do so in full public view, for all the world to see”

Nikki Haley puts world on notice

And this really is SMART “soft power” (which Obama utilized to little effect) – knowing that world now knows that America’s soft power is now backed up with hard power.  You cannot have one without the other – and the willpower and wisdom to know which one to use when.

For those of too young of age, I remember Kirkpatrick showing up on TV – it was highly unusual to see a woman saying what she did with the strength that she had in saying it. She made it clear where the US stood at any time – and what we stood for.  It seems that new US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley is cut from the same steel wrapped cloth:

The above quotes were, indeed, uttered by the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N….in the 1980s. Those stirring and powerful words were spoken by Jeane Kirkpatrick, not Nikki Haley, at the height of the Cold War. The fact that they could well have been attributed to Ambassador Haley, however, is a testament to Haley’s steely resolve and polished rhetoric after only weeks on the job. Nikki Haley has come to the U.N. at a time no less consequential than the Cold War tenure of Jeane Kirkpatrick under Ronald Reagan. From confronting radical Islamic terrorism to a resurgent Russian aggression to a rising Chinese military industrial complex, America’s global leadership is being challenged from all sides. In a turbulent sea of world affairs, America must have a steady hand in the White House and a spine of tempered steel at the United Nations. Ambassador Nikki Haley is proving to be the latter.
