From making sport of to….silence. Which should concern us all

Nope, not gonna link because, well, I’m not going to out someone who doesn’t want to be.  But first, my response:

THis is REALLY scary when you start thinking about the ramifications, not just about Rice being outed for outing others but that your friends just got yanked backwards as if they were movie stunt men. What’s that old saw about “a government that is big enough to give you everything…” – I think they’re starting to realize its offshoots and secondary effects.

And what captured my attention?

Interesting anecdotal observation (emphasis mine):

I have a Twitter list of infosec (information security) folks. A lot of them are former NSA and CIA. The vast majority of them are furiously anti-Trump. There is literally just one solitary (avowed) pro-Trump member of my list.

Since Trump’s election, every allegation of Russian involvement results in a tsunami of speculation and “my former colleagues tell me…” all kinds of stories that corroborate the allegations. The same was true when Trump first sent out his Tweet about Obama “wiretapping” him. He was savaged by these people. They laughed and giggled and played tickle-sticks with one another over how ridiculous his claims were. They shared list after list of reasons why it was impossible for intelligence like this to become unmasked.

NOT A F—ING PEEP from them today after the revelations this weekend that Susan Rice unmasked the intelligence for political purposes. My list is hauntingly silent.

There is a deep state and they seem scared.

And they should be and on several levels. One is that they are seeing their deep secrets, even if honorably acquired for noble reasons, used for nefarious purposes (if this unmasking and Obama’s Susan Rice connection holds up).  Another level is the surprise they must be feeling that they, these specialized Smart People, that they got played.  And at the worst level, the feeling that they were betrayed by traitors at the highest level of government, that the sacrifices that they and their friends may have made were being used for the crassest of purposes.

I bet that there are a lot of other reasons.  Obviously one is if the Susan Rice types start do the normal “political mud-running away” procedure to keep from becoming THE problem and start trying to implicate others lower down so as to share the misery and worse, get caught up in the net that’s about to come their way.

They are about to learn, if they didn’t already know, at least at the head level if not the heart one, that there isn’t the same meaning to “loyalty” at those high levels as there is in the trenches.

I’d be scared for all of those, and more, as we keep taking those steps to becoming a Banana (and failed) Republic.
