Pine Tree

Branch-1

Almost prophetically, Ol’ Remus said this on Tuesday in his Woodpile Report, the day before yesterday’s terror attack in downtown London:

No one dares to even think “make Germany great again” or “UK UK UK” or “France first”. Europe remains defeated in mind and spirit [as a result of WWI and WWII]. Does anyone imagine the ancient tribes of Europe—the Remii, Belgii, Sigrambi, Ubii, Usipetes, Ambivariti, Helvetii, Tencteri, et al—would invite hundreds of thousands of foreigners to occupy their lands, then house them and feed them even as they raped and plundered the place.

So, what do the great and powerful leaders of Great Britain do next?

Their PM made her Thatcheresque speech in Churchillian pentameter.  There will be a predictable display of armed police at the scene of the crime, making everyone feel “safe”.  But what else?  Will the British government let their police officers carry sidearms, instead of relying on “firearms officers“?  Will they finally end this silly game of hoping that wildly different cultures (one of which wants to eliminate the other) can coexist in a small, urban location and not act upon their tribal instincts?

Honestly, the only recourse now is to shut down the flow of refugees and immigrants and deport all non-citizens from countries that subscribe to/export Islamic Jihad (we know which one’s they are).  Then, you watch those that remain behind with vigilance.  Once citizenship is granted, we can’t simply banish a person (I don’t advocate for breaching Constitutional rights) – we just have to watch and hope for the best.  But without first seriously closing the barn door, you only allow the problem to compound beyond management.

We had our watershed moment on September 11,2001;  yet all we did was enact a deeply intrusive and expensive surveillance state.  Sadly, many in our government are determined to rush in more refugees.  Recently, President Trump attempted to enact a minuscule policy geared to closing said “barn door” and the Liberals pushed back with their best screechery.  Will it take another catastrophic event to wake these people up?

Sadly, yes.

Keep your head on a swivel and hope for the best.

Search Christmas Catalog 1966

The recent news about the imminent failure of Sears has me thinking.

Started as a mail-order catalog business in 1886, Sears provided the means to scour a massive array of products then order what you wanted from the comfort of your home, delivered right to your doorstep.   This new method of shopping helped usher the gradual demise of small general stores all over the country, not able to offer the wide array of products or the convenience of home shopping.

Sound familiar? I could be describing the affect Amazon.com has been having on world commerce over the past 10 years.

In 1925, Sears then opened retail outlets (Amazon is now, too), hoping to expand their empire and eat the rest of any serious competitors’ lunches.  But, as you would expect, the catalog eventually fell out of vogue and other entrepreneurs adapted to find ways of catching up (enter the shopping mall).

So, are we watching history repeat itself?  Yes.  Capitalism is great.
