Gee, NFL, how’d this work out for Target, eh?

wilson_nfl_duke_official_size_leather_game_ballThe quick answer is that it hasn’t – when Target decided that it was going to make their bathroom basically unisex (“ollie, ollie, come on in home free”), it started a backlash from conservatives and traditionalists that didn’t want women to be forced to share the women’s bathrooms with men (especially the perverts proclaiming to be transgender to gain entry to that bathroom – but aren’t; we’ve written about this before and the pervs that have been caught).  But Target plowed on to cater to a small sliver of society – they made the decision that they could do without a large percentage of their customer because SOCIAL JUSTICE. They just didn’t plan on that same customer base deciding that they could do without Target, whose financials have suffered for their SJW ways. I know I used to go in fairly often – not anymore.

Then there’s the NFL whose TV ratings have sucked (relatively speaking for them). They’ve alienated a lot of their fan base by letting the Colin Kaepernick nonsense continue (as well as the “military pay for play” stupidity), and now they want to do the same thing as Target?

Texas’ next trip to the Super Bowl may hit a roadblock in Austin, where conservative lawmakers are pushing a bill to ban transgender people from the public bathrooms they feel most comfortable using.

If a proposal that is discriminatory or inconsistent with our values were to become law (in Texas), that would certainly be a factor considered when thinking about awarding future events,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in an email response to a Chronicle question about the bill.

“The NFL embraces inclusiveness,” McCarthy added. “We want all fans to feel welcomed at our events, and NFL policies prohibit discrimination based on age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or any other improper standard.”

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick favors the proposal, formally the Texas Privacy Act, which would require transgender people to use public bathrooms based on their biological sex and not the gender of their choice. Placing it among his top priorities for passage this session, Patrick has called the measure essential to public safety and declared it one of the “conservative principles” that protect “Texas values.”

I don’t think that there is a State that is more “football” than Texas but I think that the NFL may be thinking more of itself than it ought by threatening a pullout over this.  Frankly, it’s back to “Shut up and sing” time – you’re just entertainment and I doubt that conservative Texas (albeit with pockets of Socialism) are going to take a liking to be threatened.

I’ve already opted out of watching the NFL and all I can think of with this NFL trying to dictate an LGBT morality to an entire State is just going to stiffen the resolve that a lot of people like me have – nope, not gonna watch.

After all, it IS only entertainment and there’s a lot of choices out there that actually WANT my attention instead of hectoring me and then believing I have to watch it.

That’s not how it works, dudes.
