Former bastion of NH Conservativism, Union Leader, devolving to Progressive speech codes?

“but where and by whom are the parent going to be held responsible and accountable for causing this problem in the first place?”

Union Leader LogoOr is it trying to have it both ways? Conservative paper, Progressive reporter?  Bonus is that an Officer of the Court is lying (MAN, there’s a lot of that going around lately).  Headline for a piece (reformatted, emphasis mine) by Kevin Landrigan:

Trump order has undocumented immigrants in Manchester on edge

MANCHESTER – As President Donald Trump’s administration spells out the terms of its upgraded crackdown against illegal immigrants, those living here who are undocumented say they have become even more careful about contact with the public.

Illegal alien is the legal term of art.  If you were not born here and entered into the country without following our Rule of Law, you are illegally here.  “Undocumented” is the Progressive / Open Border crowd’s way of “softening” and redirecting attention away from the legal guilt of these people.  “Undocumented” implies “oh, it’s ok to be here – it is just a simple paperwork issue.  Bullcrap – it’s propaganda and the editor for this piece knows it.

So what side ARE you on, UL?

And yes, these illegal aliens SHOULD be on edge and they SHOULD be looking over their collective shoulders – if you have not bothered to follow our pathway(s) to come here legally, you should be scared – you know you are here wrongly.  Let’s also look at the BIAS in this article – not ONCE is there mention of the time and cost that legal immigrants (LEGAL) have expended to be here and not one quote from a legal immigrant in the piece.

But of course the lawyers are here to obfuscate and make the pitiful calls for empathy, understanding – and for ignoring the Law:

Enrique Mesa, a Manchester lawyer who specializes in immigration law, said his practice has gotten busier in recent months as many without legal papers come to ask for advice on what to do if they are apprehended by federal agents. “What I’m seeing is the reality that is slowly hitting people now that the Trump administration is really going to be anti-immigration,” Mesa said Friday. “Many people are scared and trying to figure out what to do next.”

This is the Progressive taking the language and spinning it into something else by REFUSING to use the proper modifier – Mesa is intentionally conflating legal and illegal immigration as if it were just one morass of an issue.  It isn’t but boy is he trying. No, we on the Right are NOT anti-immigration but we do want LEGAL immigration but this is the demonization that the Left wishes to provoke and provide.

Frankly, if I was in any other country, say Mexico, without having crossed their border without permission, shouldn’t I be scared that I was either going to end up in jail or deported (or both)?  Shouldn’t that country protect its borders according to its laws?  And isn’t that all that Trump has done – removed the “guidance” that Obama put in place (by which many in ICE could not carry out their jobs without fear of losing them (irony, eh)?) which in practical terms, told DHS employees to follow the law (without a ludicrous version of “prosecutorial discretion” effectively neutering them). Trump basically said “Go back to work and DO YOUR JOBS”.

Where have we come as a country that doing just that, following the Law, is extremist and un-American?

…An undocumented immigrant born in Colombia has lived in Manchester for the last 15 years with her husband and two children. Over the years she formed a telemarketing business out of her home selling products over the phone to a “network” of Hispanic customers in southern New Hampshire. She asked that her name not be published for fear of being picked up by authorities

She and her husband, a day laborer, have voluntarily paid taxes every year since they’ve been here, she said.

“It is a long, hard time for everybody who does not have the proper papers to live here,” the woman said. “Many families are good people; we know we have broken the law by being here without permission, but we have tried to do good ever since.”

Paying your taxes….how?  What Landrigan fails to say is whether she using an ITN or a Social Security Number.  Either would be under false pretenses – does she have a false ID which is a felony?  Doesn’t mention that – why?  And if she is running a business, is she paying NH taxes (like the BET and profit taxes)?  Landrigan doesn’t mention that either.

So is it just ONE law broken as she self-admits or multiples at both the State and Federal levels?  Is there not to be any accountability simply because she is an illegal?  Why should American Law be put into a “pick and choose” situation?  If so, how come I, as a full citizen, am subject to the full extent and weight of that Law – and they are not?

When one of their friends is caught by officials with the Department of Immigration and Custom Enforcement, word travels fast. “We hear that some friends of ours have been caught by ICE. This makes all the people afraid,” she said.  “This makes people paranoid to even be out on the street at times.”

It should make them afraid – don’t do the crime if you’re not willing to do the time or face the consequences.  But here’s the part that gets me the maddest:

The couple’s two sons are now attending colleges with full scholarships, her youngest at Columbia University. “We have dreams to give them a better future than we have had,” she said.

So, she broke the law for a better life for her kids.  Laudable, but still illegal – but her kids won the “world’s lottery”.  And this is what I hate the most that people like Enrique Mesa and all the other advocates scream bloody murder about “tearing families apart!”. In all this, the children are held up as victims as in “how dare you send their parents back and split up the family?”.  Sorry, but where and by whom are the parent going to be held responsible and accountable for causing this problem in the first place?  People like Mesa just love to use the kids as human political shields – the anecdote, the narrative: YOU HATE CHILDREN if you want the Law enforced.  You heartless heathens!

Yeah, yeah, been there done that – and I keep reading of illegal aliens, many have been deported several times and came back, murdering yet more American citizens.  So who is the heartless one?  What, you hate Kate Steinle simply because she got in the way o that thrice deported illegal alien’s bullet from the gun he stole?

Another undocumented resident – she also requested that her name not be published – came to New Hampshire in 1995 after she was working in a Miami migrant camp. She was getting paid $50 a month when the operator seized her passport. While working there, her student visa expired and she’s been illegally here ever since.

Let me get this straight – you came on a student visa to work in a migrant camp?  So you lied to the American public about the real reason you came? Twenty years, you’ve been living that lie – and you expect empathy and forgiveness?  But this next bit is rich, real rich:

She said she was drawn to New Hampshire because of its reputation. “I came to New Hampshire because of live free or die. I figured that was good for immigration,” she said.

It works for one and only one reason – respect.  Respect for your family, your friends, and your neighbors.  It also requires respect for the Law – which you trashed.  And KNOWING that you are here illegally, you do THIS?

But after the Trump inauguration, she’s wary of deportation. “I do not drive, I take the bus or walk wherever I go. People call me all the time and tell me I have to be careful now.”  How careful? The woman works as an advocate for immigrants in the Manchester area and recently attended a conference on the West Coast.

Should be rather easy to track down – thank for the info, Kevin!  Ah – here’s the “kid card” thrown:

“I know a lot of people who live in fear now. Many are so worried that their children are going to come home from school and find their mother or father no longer is there with them,” she said.

Again, I ask THE most important question – why did these parents put their children into this possibility?  It is not us, the American citizenry, that have done this.  It is not ICE or local law enforcement that have done this.  It isn’t even the Law that has done this.  Like she said above, they intentionally have broken the law – and do not want to be held accountable.  You had time to make it right – you could have returned and made the effort to come here legally.

You chose not to. You decided that the risk/reward ratio was favorable – that’s all it is.  You took the bet – and now are horrified that the risk is now looking you square in the face? Hey, lawbreaker – what is it that makes you think that we OWE you anything for not getting caught for so long?  What makes you think that you are entitled to be here illegally?  Do you really think anywhere else in the world you wouldn’t have the same problem?

“I keep thinking that the situation would get better, that the nightmare would be over, but every day it gets worse and worse.”

I have no empathy for someone that has done this and I hope it DOES get worse and worse every day until you decide to return back to your home country.  THEN, maybe then, come back – legally.  But don’t expect me to throw a joyous return party because you’ve been sticking a finger into the “eye of the Law” for years.

Now there’s also another serious problem that Landrigan exposes in his piece – and one in which I hope someone can tell me how to file a complaint with the NH Bar Association:

Mesa said he’s advised some immigrants to leave New Hampshire and go to live in states with sanctuary cities that in some areas will shield aliens from ICE, such as Vermont, Massachusetts or California. “They don’t feel confident staying in a state that doesn’t protect them,” Mesa said.

So here you have an Officer of the Court, sworn to uphold the Law, telling his “clients” how to go on breaking the Law?  How is this ethically legal to the Bar? The worst part is Enrique Mesa’s lame apologist stance: “a state that doesn’t protect them“.

Sorry, it is NOT the responsibility of the State of NH to protect your illegal clients – it IS supposed to be protecting law abiding citizens and residents FROM them.
