Fake News? Just making sport of the MSM? Or a

disinformation plot to find leakers?

Who the heck knows but certainly the Associated Press looks like a fool: AP Exclusive: DHS weighed Nat Guard for immigration roundups

Sidenote: it is obvious that the AP has rewritten their story as it clashes with the scrape that RedState has, so I’ll go with that:

The Trump administration is considering a proposal to mobilize as many as 100,000 National Guard troops to round up unauthorized immigrants, including millions living nowhere near the Mexico border, according to a draft memo obtained by The Associated Press.

The 11-page document calls for the unprecedented militarization of immigration enforcement as far north as Portland, Oregon, and as far east as New Orleans, Louisiana.

You know something, this doesn’t even pass the smell test:

Four states that border on Mexico are included in the proposal — California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas — but it also encompasses seven states contiguous to those four — Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.

Governors in the 11 states would have a choice whether to have their guard troops participate, according to the memo, written by U.S. Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly, a retired four-star Marine general.

There is the Posse Comitatus Act:

The Posse Comitatus Act is a United States federal law (18 U.S.C. § 1385, original at 20 Stat. 152) signed on June 18, 1878 by President Rutherford B. Hayes. The purpose of the act – in concert with the Insurrection Act of 1807 – is to limit the powers of the federal government in using federal military personnel to enforce domestic policies within the United States. It was passed as an amendment to an army appropriation bill following the end of Reconstruction, and was subsequently updated in 1956 and 1981.

The Act only specifically applies to the United States Army and, as amended in 1956, the United States Air Force. While the Act does not explicitly mention the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps, the Department of the Navy has prescribed regulations that are generally construed to give the Act force with respect to those services as well. The Act does not apply to the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard under state authority from acting in a law enforcement capacity within its home state or in an adjacent state if invited by that state’s governor. The United States Coast Guard, which operates under the Department of Homeland Security, is not covered by the Posse Comitatus Act either, primarily because although the Coast Guard is an armed service, it also has both a maritime law enforcement mission and a federal regulatory agency mission.

Now, the NatGuard isn’t covered by this, but as inexperienced (given that his Presidency is only 1 month old) as the Trump Administration is right now, do you REALLY think that they wouldn’t consider the political optics of this?  Sure, it would be in support of a campaign promised but Trump is not stupid nor most of the people around him (all deference given to the stupid rollout of the ban on immigration from the 6 failed nation-state + Iran Exec. Order) – they wouldn’t do this.

Even the AP story now shows reservations and has quotes knocking it down – AFTER the White House did pooh-poohed when it learned of it (but this one from CNBC seems to read as if it is true).  So here’s something that these journalists never mentioned or ask:

Umm, how much law enforcement expertise would be needed by these NatGuard troops have?  That is, if they are not MPs (which a whole different type of law enforcement).  Other than guarding those round up, do these journalists really think they’d have real investigative skills as a whole? Sure the CNBC does talk about previous usage of the NatGuard but that was at the border – this would be in the interior of the country.

So the story been knocked down as Fake.

<chuckling here> Was this done deliberately to embarrass the MSM outright?  Or a way to track down a leaker.  Imagine that (if true) a two-fer!  MSM red face and doing an IRS on a leaker (i.e., the FEAR of an audit is what keeps most people honest).  Make an example of someone / or people – Trump has said illegal leakers and we do know that Trump hates unloyal people (Ben Carson just lost an aide for an Op-Ed berating Trum the aide wrote before the election; Ben Carson didn’t even know about it until afterwards).

Ah, what do I know about this stuff – I’m just a an ordinary schlub from central NH. Silly me – a trap for anti-Trump government workers.  What was I thinking….
