Medical Association ignores their own real health crisis to push gun control

On Tuesday, NPR posted a study by the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in which the association cries out over the “gun violence crisis.” They claim that 30,000 gun deaths (over 20,000 which are suicides) is somehow a “crisis” in a country of over 300 million people. They are falsely claiming that all gun deaths are due to violence, as do all gun control pushers. Of course, JAMA doesn’t put a true health crisis on their little chart – medical malpractice.

According to many studies, medical malpractice results in the deaths of between 200,000 and 400,000 people (men, women and children) every single year and the numbers aren’t getting any better. Interesting that medical professionals seek to push gun control rather than medical practice control isn’t it?

JAMA ignores existing study

JAMA biggest complaint is there is no public funding for “gun violence” yet they ignore the $10 million study that was spent via Executive Order for such a study under the Obama Administration. The study, Priorities for Research to Reduce the Threat of Firearm-Related Violence, that obviously came to different conclusions than they would like to see. From the study and Investors Business Daily:

The study, which was farmed out by the CDC to the Institute of Medicine and National Research Council, also revealed that while there were “about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008,” the estimated number of defensive uses of guns ranges “from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year.”

Here are a few more salient points from the study:

“Whether gun restrictions reduce firearm-related violence is an unresolved issue.”

“Studies that directly assessed the effect of actual defensive uses of guns have found consistently lower injury rates among gun-using crime victims compared with victims who used other self-protective strategies.”

One “body of research” (Kleck and Gertz, 1995) cited by the study found “estimated annual gun use for self-defense” to be “up to 2.5 million incidents, suggesting that self-defense can be an important crime deterrent.”

Of course, this study has been completely ignored by Democrats and gun control organizations since it was published. They continue the false claim that no funding has been available for any type of gun-related studies even with a $10 million study as evidence right in front of them.

Medical errors are an actual health crisis

The CDC does not list medical errors as a cause of death in their reporting. This is part of the illusion and the problem. According to a report by PBS, a new study finds that as many as 250,000 people die from medical errors each year in the United States:

While exact numbers are elusive, a new analysis and estimate portrays an even grimmer picture. The new paper finds that as many as 250,000 people die each year from errors in hospitals and other health care facilities. That would make it the third leading cause of death in the U.S., ahead of respiratory disease, accidents and even stroke.

Given there are over 700,000 medical doctors practicing in the United States, that number is a significant percentage higher than the 30,000 gun deaths compared to an estimated 90 million gun owners in the country. Why is it that JAMA and other organizations completely ignore this actual health crisis? It’s because they have no desire to actually concern themselves with a true killer in the country’s midst. They would much rather demonize law-abiding gun owners than demonize medical practioners.

Once again, the gun control crowd proves they aren’t concerned about safety or human life, they are only concerned about control. They seek to control law-abiding citizens based on their fearmongering that “gun violence” is a crisis, especially when they include suicides as “gun violence.” These people should be mocked and disbelieved accordingly. Can you say “fake news?”

The gun control crowd cannot be taken seriously since they not only lie about statistics but they ignore true crises. If JAMA was truly concerned about safety and human lives, they’d get their own profession in order before pushing their control onto law-abiding citizens. The statistics show medical practitioners have a much higher rate of death than “firearm practitioners,” most of whom are not professionals but who are law-abiding citizens who seek to save their own lives if necessary.
