“Keep Calm – All is well!” Er, no.

(H/T: Animal House, Kevin Bacon)

“The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works — whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified.” – President Obama, Inauguration (2009)

Apparently, Obama is going to make like George Washington and make his “farewell” speech (sigh….if only).  I do wonder if he’ll mention these two specific things rather than his logic-twisting, alternative-reality pronouncements that he’s been making lately (e.g., how FORTUNATE we’ve been to have him as President).  After all, if he says it seems to be that he thinks it becomes real – you know, like God speaking something into existence:

Medicare?: “The Medicare Actuary says that taxpayers now face a Medicare unfunded liability ranging from $27.9 to $36.8 trillion.”

The VA?: “One year after outrage about long waiting lists for health care shook the Department of Veterans Affairs, the agency is facing a new crisis: The number of veterans on waiting lists of one month or more is now 50 percent higher than it was during the height of last year’s problems, department officials say.”

Let’s take the latter one first as this has been totally under his control and it has only gone from worse to abysmal.

I guess setting up that “throwing Israel to the wolves” (soon to be followed by an even worse one after 1/15) UN resolution took too much time to craft right?  Years, even, waiting to get even with Bibi, eh?  No, he had the power to wade in and make it right for those that sacrificed much on our behalf.  This isn’t just about the added money – this is about the culture and the govt unions protecting themselves over the well being of the vets.  Lots of talk from Obama but no real responsibility taken.

As to the first – this and Social Security AND the national debt are decade running, long standing money bombs.  And for the Left – NO, you just can’t take more money from the rich SIMPLY because they have the money to solve this problem.  Too much was promised in the past under different demographic, cultural, and financial conditions (the first being the most important of the three) and Obama was either impotent to do anything about it or like his predecessors, unwilling to do anything about it.

Remember, our total yearly GDP right now is about $19 Trillion.  So we would have to take TWO YEARS of every penny of economic activity in the US to get Medicare made whole – and that ain’t gonna happen.

So I’m blaming Obama.  Why not – he blamed Bush for seven of the last eight years and all he’s done is given us an overall GDP average increase of about 1.7%.  And wants us to thank him for it.

Nope.
