Permits.
Yeah, permits. You see, in order to make a living, one doesn’t have the freedom to just do what one wants for a living. Nope, one has to get permission from the Nanny State in the form of “permits” to pretty much do anything nowadays. Land of the Free? Not so much, but I digress.
Seems that Michael Turner of Turner LP Gas made it known (if you read Steve’s post, you’d know) he was only going to sell to non-Trump supporters. Problem is, he wasn’t supposed to be selling any propane to anyone.
Permits (emphasis mine):
A Maine propane dealer decided to not sell propane to any customer who voted for Donald Trump. Okay… first, how would he know? That’s his right to take that stand… it’s still a free country the last time I looked. But there is just one little ole snag… he’s not legally licensed to sell propane and hasn’t been for at least two years. Oopsie…
..He’s not licensed to sell gas to anyone according to the Maine Fuel Board. Did I say two years? His license expired in 2012, that would be four years. He had two licenses, one for delivery and the other for dispensing, which expired in 2012 and 2014, respectively. The board became aware of the issue after the news of Turner’s message was reported by the Portland Press Herald late last week. Now, he faces fines from the state attorney general’s office for breaking the law and a code inspection. Hope he fails it.
Decisions have consequences and he’s getting one thanks to not just law enforcement but the Law of Unintended Consequences – and running his big yap stupidly. Yes, freedom of speech but remember:
