Hampshire College is Flying the American Flag Again (Begrudgingly)

hampshire college flagHampshire College is flying the American flag again.

Hampshire College, which had previously removed its American flag after President-elect Donald Trump’s victory on Election Day, has returned the flag to its usual position on campus.

The flag went to half mast after Hillary lost, then was burned.  Rather than replace it and fly it properly the College decided to encourage a discussion of the flag’s meaning.

As if a community flying it at half mast after an election (*a violation of the school rules if I read this right) and then burning it didn’t suggest that such discussion has been under way for a very long time.

Ashe Schow, writing for Watchdog, reports that the flag went back up because of threatening emails and messages of hate.

Maybe I just didn’t spend enough time digging through the comments, because I didn’t see any “overt hate” toward “marginalized communities.” I saw harsh criticism of the flag decision, and harsh responses to those upset about the flag’s removal, but nothing that even came close to overt “hate.”

That doesn’t mean it didn’t happen, but it was certainly not the norm. Not all criticism is “hate.”

Most “criticism” is not hate. It is criticism. A difference of opinion. A matter of debate. And therein lies the rub. Hampshire is in the business of hardwiring generations of dogmatic progressives. Asking them to think outside that tiny little box is akin to asking them to accept that Hillary’s inevitability was just another left-wing lie propagated by liberal institutions who hoped that if they just kept saying it–like everything else they believe–it would become not just their “truth” but revealed truth.

Modern Liberalism is a persistent illusion, made more so by the media and the progressive prestidigitators at Colleges like Hampshire.

So, the morning of November 9th was more than the loss of an election. It was a repudiation of “faith.”

Tantrums are to be expected.

Having your tantrums checked? I guess that’s called hate.

Political & Civic Rights
Members of the Hampshire College community may not:

Cause the College to make, or to appear to make, an endorsement of, comment on, contribution to, or expenditure for a political candidate or party.

I think the average person would see flying the flag at half-mast after the election as an endorsement or at least a comment on a political candidate of Party.
