ShotTeam USA Hockey Coach Warns Players What Will Happen if They Sit for National Anthem

The coach of Team USA for the upcoming World Cup of hockey is standing by his vow to bench players who refuse to stand for the national anthem. Coach John Tortorella told ESPN Tuesday, “If any of my players sit on the bench for the national anthem, they will sit there the rest of the game.” According to ESPN, Tortorella reiterated his remarks Wednesday.

“I’m not backing off,” Tortorella said. “I’ll tell you right now. Try to understand me. I’m not criticizing anybody for stepping up and putting their thoughts out there about things. I’m the furthest thing away from being anything political. No chance I’m involved in that stuff.”

Chaser: Report: Seattle Seahawks considering team-wide national anthem protest — on 9/11

Seattle receiver Doug Baldwin said Wednesday he is also considering sitting during the anthem before Sunday’s 1:05 p.m. kickoff at CenturyLink Field while linebacker Bobby Wagner said the team has been talking about a group action…Wagner said he couldn’t say exactly what the team might do, saying “whatever we decide to do will be a big surprise.” Baldwin, asked if players besides himself have considered joining Lane, said “our locker room has discussed it. So we’ll see.”

“Absolutely,” Baldwin said of it the date needs to be taken into consideration when deciding whether to protest. “I think that anybody should be thinking about that. Even if it wasn’t September 11 the point of the protest is to get people to think. I think it’s very ironic to me that 15 years ago on Sept.11 was one of the most devastating times in U.S .history and after that day we were probably the most unified that we have ever been. And today we struggle to see the unity. And it’s very ironic to me that this date is coming up. So it’s going to be a special day, a very significant day, but at the same time I am looking forward to the may changes and differences, the changes we can make in this country to make better changes in our country.”

Hangover:  How come these clowns get to spout their politics in our faces but bakers, photographers, ministers, and flower arrangers can’t chose to remain silent and keep their politics to themselves?

I am reminded of Laura Ingraham’s book “Shut up and Sing”.  Trust me, I am the last person that entertainers believe that they have to “educate, conscience raise, or evolve” – and I am quite happy to respond in kind by no longer participating or watching.  The last thing I need is to have a bunch of wet-behind-the-ears rich “beyond most of us” athletes who have been treated like pampered superstars all their lives tell me that I am (and people like me) responsible for all of the ills of this country.

Listen, I have a history of when entertainers (or retailers or manufacturers) decide to trash me for not being Progressive to simply write them out of my life and out of my checkbook / debit card. Whilst my only professional sport that I now watch is the NFL (and specifically the NE Patriots), if they do this, I’m done.

Remember you fools, people have choices and I will make one.  Sure, I’m just one person but if the NFL (the No Fun League) now wants to become the No-Conservative Social Justice League, they can do it without me.

I support your right to make a choice to blither about anything you want – my two boys went to Iraq and Afghanistan to fight for that right.  But it works both ways – something these twits just don’t get. Respect is EARNED and easily lost.

They do this and I’m quite sure that a goodly number of the NFL’s audience will start choosing to do other things.
