I interviewed State Senate District 16 candidate Joe Duarte (Do-Art) last night for this week’s podcast, and the first topic was Secretary of State Bill Gardner ruling his primary opponent ineligible. Don Winterton did not meet residency requirements for the office and had to drop out. Gardener says that the ballots are being reprinted for Tuesday’s primary.
WMUR also reported that Independent candidate for Governor Mike Gill is also deemed ineligible because he is not registered to vote. I wasn’t familiar with this rule and admit I find it odd.
If this is the law of the land, then Gill should have been registered. But, anyone from anywhere can show up in New Hampshire, claim they feel like they “live here” for a few hours, register and vote the day of an election, then change their mind and leave. No one is allowed to question this because we can’t know their intent so votes are stolen and elections distorted.
The AG, Secretary of State, and the Courts have defended this ridiculous interpretation of domicile. But Gill, who lives here, and who is under no obligation to vote, even for himself, is required to register to vote to run for office?
Don Winterton is registered to vote, but he hasn’t “lived here” long enough to run for state Senate, so he’s out too.
Gill is appealing Gardner’s ruling.
Update: According to several sources, Mike Gill is registered. But another Mike Gill from Derry passed away this year and odds are good the checklist monkeys scratched the wrong name off the list.
What’s remarkable about that, and if you read this blog at all you’ll know where I’m going, non-residents and mobile domicile vote stealers stay on checklists for years. Dead people stay on the town checklists. And yet the town of Derry expeditiously removed the wrong Mike Gill from their checklist, mere months after his passing.
Gardner still has it our for Gill.
