"I am convinced that in the long run, giving up some freedom of action... enhances our security" - Granite Grok

“I am convinced that in the long run, giving up some freedom of action… enhances our security”

I try hard not to be a conspiracy hound (although a couple of our Progressive commenters, bless their hearts, keep rolling rocks on ‘Grok grounds so that the phrase “looking under rocks to find a conspiracy” could be used) so a lot of times I’ll pass on posting something up simply because, well, “first info” isn’t always right. Or the second.  Sure, it means that sometimes I’m not “first” and it gets to be too late to bother.  So I don’t travel over to Info Wars but the when it has Obama’s words from his latest UN speech?  Well then, the title: VIDEO: OBAMA THINKS US SOVEREIGNTY OVERRATED, SHOULD CEDE FREEDOMS TO UN (emphasis mine):

And we can only realize the promise of this institution’s founding — to replace the ravages of war with cooperation — if powerful nations like my own accept constraints. Sometimes I’m criticized in my own country for professing a belief in international norms and multilateral institutions. But I am convinced that in the long run, giving up some freedom of action — not giving up our ability to protect ourselves or pursue our core interests, but binding ourselves to international rules over the long term — enhances our security. And I think that’s not just true for us.

I read that and immediately thought of Ol Ben:

We have given you a Republic, if you can keep it!

and

People willing to trade their freedom for temporary security deserve neither and will lose both.

Maybe I’m just old fashion but it was always my belief that the US stood alone, unshackled, the Land of Freedom.  Yet, here is the President of the United States outright talking about security – but not Freedom.  Constraints, but not Freedom?  International laws and international organizations determining how we are to have our Freedom?

We had a war to separate ourselves from a tyrannical government.  We have lost our people, our treasure, our blood to keep it.  We now see what is happening over in Europe where such “international norms” and “multinational institutions” where unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats have so much power and have so riled the regular folks that we have seen Brexit and calls from other, smaller nations and political groups doing the same.  We see the utter resentment of their nations mired in the place that Obama wishes to put us.  They call out for Freedoms that are being taken from them  – Obama is looking to subvert ours to others.  He believes in the UN and like all Progressives, moving power upward to a higher more centralized nexus; our Republic depends on being able to hold our leaders, elected officials, and indeed, government responsible and accountable.  He leads us to a place to make that almost impossible.

No, our long term Freedom says no to that Progressive / Socialist / Globalist.  He tries to fly on the security blanket – it would smother Freedom.  And just like we are seeing in Europe, we would have neither Freedom or the pretense of a security that isn’t – how can it when many of the actors establishing these “norms” and “organizations” pretty much don’t like us much at all.

Besides, what is so bad about our American norms, Mr. President?  Or those that agree with him?
