Government not working – a few examples from current events.

After all, it was President Obama who said to judge the Feds (and his Administration) on whether it works – or not:

“The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works — whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified.”  – President Obama, Inauguration (2009)

Instead of a one-by-one series that I’ve done, here’s a few:

Secret Service faces questions about child sex abuse

The U.S. Secret Service is under scrutiny after a batch of newly released documents revealed that a special agent was accused in 2012 of using a date-rape drug to molest boys. The revelation, stemming from a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, raised questions about whether the Secret Service and Department of Homeland Security, which oversees it, as well as its investigative arm, took sufficient action when confronted with the allegations.

And yet, Progressives keep telling us that Government is filled with experts that are non-partisan and only have everyone’s best interest at the forefront.  Again, what were those boys’ best interests in getting molested by Federal Government employees?

Gee, I thought that was only done by UN peacekeeper forces. Sadly, Progressives continue to take into effect that human nature is simply human nature that they cannot force to “evolve”…

Feds Grant $50K To Olive Oil Producers To Pursue Fed Grants

The American Olive Oil Producers Association has received a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Specialty Crop Research Grant (SCRI) grant of $50,000 for a project that aims to develop a plan to get more SCRI grants. Last week, the USDA announced the award for the “Developing a Trans-Disciplinary Strategic Plan for the American Olive Oil Industry to Identify and Prioritize Research Opportunities and Challenges” project.

Hmm, Feds pay people to go for grants to get….more money?  Isn’t that rather inefficient, looking at it from the best case scenario.  And from the worst case, WHY can’t the olive industry fund their own dang research?

Cost of Obamacare Medicaid Expansion 49% Higher Than Previously Estimated

A government report finds that the cost of expanding Medicaid to millions more low-income people is increasing faster than expected, raising questions about a vital part of President Barack Obama’s health care law.  The law provided for the federal government to pay the entire cost of the Medicaid expansion from 2014 through the end of this year.

Obama has proposed an extra incentive for states that have not yet expanded Medicaid: three years of full federal financing no matter when they start. But the new cost estimates could complicate things. In a recent report to Congress, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said the cost of expansion was $6,366 per person for 2015, about 49 percent higher than previously estimated.

“We were told all along that the expansion population would be less costly,” said health economist Brian Blase with the Mercatus Center at George Mason University in Virginia. “They are turning out to be far more expensive.” Blase previously served as a GOP congressional aide.

Who’dathunkit or couldn’t see this coming?  After all, how often does Government do something that comes in on time and under budget?  Dufuses all – and you BELIEVED Obama and the Democrats?  Well, I guess you’re in good company, as once again to beat that dead horse, the NH GOP elected politicians in the NH State Senate implemented this Expanded Medicare – Obamacare program.

And of course, they can’t even answer a simple direct question right:

They can’t even be straight with us.  Or provide generally acceptable hygene because of the government union, AFGE?

NURSE HAS LONG NAILS AND NO GLOVES? NO PROBLEM, SAYS UNION: So imagine you are the patient and your nurse comes in to change the dressing on your incision. You notice she’s not wearing latex gloves. And worse, she has long artificial fingernails, which are known to harbor potentially lethal germs. What do you do?

What you do is shut up and take it, according to the American Federation of Government Employees, which represents Federal Bureau of Prisons employees. When managers at the Rochester, Minn., facilities announced a rule banning employees with such fingernails from working with certain patients, the union balked.

After negotiations failed, the issue had to be resolved by federal arbiters. Luke Rosiak of the Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group reports the unexpected details of the arbiters’ decisions.

Yeah, go read it – when confronted with the fact that germs kill, the union refused to back down over artificial fingernails whosie-whatsies.  The arrogance of unions is unbounded. This is also the same union, representing most VA workers, that believes that ITS MEMBERS should have priority in hiring over, you know, actual veterans.

Speaking of medical (et al) stuff:

Labor Department Spending $1.1M to ‘Research’ Paid-Leave Programs

The Labor Department’s Women’s Bureau on Wednesday awarded $1.1 million in grants to research and analyze how paid-leave programs can be developed and implemented across the country. Since 2014, the “Paid Leave Analysis Grant Program” has awarded more than $3 million to 17 states and municipalities to support research on ways of implementing paid family and medical-leave programs. “Too many Americans are forced to choose between the job they need and the family they love,” said U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez. “While Congress refuses to take action to make paid leave the law of the land, we have seen tremendous leadership at the state and local levels to expand access to these programs.”

Last time I looked, this should be up to business owners and managers, right?  If they think that giving such a benefit would be in the best interest of higher profit, wouldn’t you think they would already have implemented such policies themselves?  That they should have the freedom to do so – or not? WHY is Government looking to force business to add yet another expensive regulation?  Or is it the goal to force businesses to be in the welfare business too (like that old saw that GM was in the healthcare business but also happened to make cars).  Look at how that is constructed” implemented across the country” – this coming from, not the legislature, but a mere executive branch department.  But such is the state of the US Constitutional observance – which is to say, next to nothing.

“Too many Americans are forced to choose between the job they need and the family they love” – well, LOVE must explain everything, right?
