Democrats for Governor on 2A: Increase gun control and ban firearms

demsguncontrol

On Monday, WMUR released an interview segment with each Democrat running in the gubernatorial primary discussing gun control. As painful as it may seem to sit through interview after interview with any politicians, it’s important to understand what these men are saying and what they actually mean. All three Democrats for Governor – Colin Van Ostern, Mark Connolly and Steve Marchand – are for gun control yet claim to be supporters of the 2ndAmendment. Political Buzz breaks down their statements with facts.

Colin Van Ostern

Van Ostern immediately brings up Orlando, San Bernardino and Sandy Hook. Orlando and San Bernardino were Islamic terrorist attacks but Van Ostern doesn’t mention that. Like most Democrats, he chooses to ignore that fact.

In Orlando, the Islamic terrorist was on an FBI watch list and somehow was taken off and ignored. When he tried to purchase certain items at a gun shop, the owner refused to sell them and alerted the FBI. The FBI did nothing in response.

San Bernardino was also an Islamic terrorist attack. The Islamic terrorists purchased rifles through an illegal straw purchase. The wife of the murderous duo should not have been allowed in the United States due to her ties with Islamic terrorism but the FBI did nothing to stop her.

In Sandy Hook, the murderer was extremely mentally ill. His mother’s hands were tied due torestrictive laws that were put into place years ago by people like Van Ostern who gave the mentally ill more rights than the people around them, including law enforcement. The Sandy Hook murderer actually tried to purchase a firearm on his own but was denied.

Van Ostern then goes on to use the term “common sense” when referring to gun control. It’s the key word now used by anti-gunners to make people believe that their gun control is actually based on common sense. It isn’t. Democrats like Van Ostern seek to ban firearms and put ridiculous gun control laws into place that do nothing to stop criminals and only hurt law-abiding citizens by making it more difficult for them to practice their fundamental human right to self defense.

Van Ostern also talks about sharing mental health data between states in New England. He clearly doesn’t know what he’s talking about. That doesn’t happen and has never happened. For a man who wants to be the head lawmaker, it might be good if he actually knew the laws that exist.

Van Ostern claims there are “Weapons of War” on our streets

This is where Van Ostern loses all credibility. He claims New Hampshire has “weapons of war” on the streets. It’s not clear what he’s referring to since only the military actually has weapons of war. Maybe Van Ostern is referring to semi-automatic rifles that might be scary looking to him because they are black? It’s unclear. Van Ostern wants to ban rifles that are used by thousands of people in the Granite State.

He finishes by lying that he’s for the 2nd Amendment.

Mark Connolly

Connolly immediately starts of with a big LIE that’s been debunked over and over and over again. He claims that 40% of firearms are sold through private sales and the internet. Unfortunately for Connolly, another man who wants to be the head lawmaker, the federal government regulates internet sales of firearms. When purchasing a firearm over the internet, it must be sent to an federally license firearms dealer who then performs a background check when the buyer picks up the firearm.

Connolly’s 40% falsehood sounds like the same lie Zandra Rice Hawkins, head of an out-of-state organization, is trying to sell ignorant and uninformed Granite Staters. That number is actually based on an extremely small study conducted during the Clinton Administration. FromNational Review:

Actually, the number reported was a bit lower, 36 percent, and as we will see the true number of guns “sold” without check is closer to 10 percent. More important, the number comes from a 251-person survey on gun sales two decades ago, early in the Clinton administration. More than three-quarters of the survey covered sales before the Brady Act instituted mandatory federal background checks on February 28, 1994. In addition, guns are not sold in the same way today that they were sold two decades ago.

Connolly is pushing a bogus statistic from a study of 251 people and clearly is unaware of the federal laws regarding internet sales. He also goes on to claim there is increasing gun violence in America. Unfortunately, statistics don’t back him up here either. Gun violence has actually been dropping consistently since the early 90s even as gun ownership was rising. Facts don’t seem to matter to Connolly.

Connolly also wants to ban “assault weapons.” Although he probably doesn’t even know what they are since it’s a completely made up term. He actually makes the following statement:

The carnage and violence that is going on in America should not be tolerate by anyone.

Apparently this guy didn’t get the memo that New Hampshire is consistently one of the safest places on Planet Earth. Places with strict gun control are usually some of the least safe. Again, the guy wants to govern a state by putting laws into place that will see crime INCREASE.

Steve Marchand

One of Marchand’s first bogus remarks is claiming that 90% of NRA members want expanded background checks. The NRA doesn’t sell their member list. Marchand is citing yet another bogus survey made up by gun controllers to make claims that simply aren’t true. Marchand then wants to talk about magazines and the number of rounds that are allowed. Clearly he has Extrasensory Perception and knows exactly how many rounds a Granite Stater might need when defending themselves and their families from an attacker.

Marchand also uses the term “gun safety.” Another false term used by gun banners. Gun control has absolutely nothing to do with gun safety and everything to do with control.

Do any of these men actually reside in New Hampshire? Not only is the Granite State one of the safest places in the country but it has some of the least strict gun control laws. Obviously facts and statistics aren’t a strong point for any of them.

All three Democrats show how ignorant and uninformed they are when it comes to current laws. They cite claims that are completely opposite of the truth. They use bogus statistics and studies to back up their false narrative which makes them look absolutely foolish to those who do have a clue. They are using these bogus studies because they have little to no respect for Granite Staters.

Not only will all three men ban firearms but they will push gun control so that New Hampshire is no longer one of the safest places on Planet Earth but more like Chicago, a bastion of gun control with some of the highest gun violence in the country. A Democrat haven.
